Local councillor to challenge van Dongen

Abbotsford city councillor Moe Gill has confirmed he's looking to unseat John van Dongen as the provincial Liberal candidate in Abbotsford South. In an interview with Public Eye, Mr. Gill said, "I understand the BC Liberals are going open up all the nominations." As a result, the councillor stated he'd "love" to challenge Mr. van Dongen for the party nomination in that riding. "I've been serving on council for 15 years. And every three years we get challenged as well. So I think it's a democratic process they should follow. The MLA that is sitting shouldn't automatically be given the riding." Mr. Gill said he has notified Mr. van Dongen, constituency association president Ron Gladiuk, the party's election readiness committee, its president Sharon White, as well Premier Christy Clark about his intentions - which were first reported by Punjabi Patrika.
