Provincial New Democrat leadership candidate John Horgan has promised to put a "moratorium on new-of-river power projects and review existing power purchase agreements to determine if they are in the public interest." Nevertheless, Mr. Horgan campaign has received $750 donation from Aeolis Wind Power Corp., which describes itself as the province's "preeminent wind developer."
Aeolis developed the Bear Mountain Wind Park, which has a 25-year power purchase agreement with BC Hydro Corp. and is presently owned by AltaGas Income Trust.
It's also looking to construct a wind project located near the "logical route" of the government's planned northeast transmission line. Aeolis notes that line is being built to "provide power to the new Horn River Basin shale gas field," describing the farm as being "the right project - at the right time."
Speaking with Public Eye, a spokesperson for Mr. Horgan said Aeolis "donated to his campaign with full knowledge of his position on IPPs - that he's opposed. So they knew that up front. But they obviously decided he was the best candidate."
The company's donation was disclosed as part of a report detailing all donations that were made to Mr. Horgan's campaign over $250 as of April 8.
