First Nation company makes big political donations

A development company setup by the Klahoose First Nation has contributed big money to provincial Liberal leadership candidates George Abbott and Mike de Jong. Messrs. Abbott and de Jong are so far the only leadership candidates to have disclosed their campaign donations. Those documents show the Qathen Xwegus Management Corp. is among their most generous backers, contributing $10,000 to both campaigns. Klahoose First Nation Chief Ken Brown also attended Mr. Abbott's leadership bid launch event. In addition, Elections British Columbia records show Qathen Xwegus donated $10,488 to the Liberals in 2009. Messrs. Abbott and de Jong's competitors Christy Clark and Kevin Falcon haven't yet disclosed their campaign contributions.
