"We have to remember, we are at the bottom of one of the worst recessions we've ever seen in this province. Times are very tough. And we don't have unlimited amounts of taxpayer money to spend." That's the dodge Christy Clark used during last night's provincial Liberal leadership debate when moderator Vaughn Palmer asked whether it was "achievable" and "fair" that the government's recent budget included "no money to pay increases to our school teachers." But, according to that same budget, we're not at the bottom of the recession. The ministry of finance estimates the economy increased by 3.1 percent in 2010 and is forecast to grow by 2.0 percent in 2011 and 2.6 percent in 2012. Fancy that!
