Kevin Falcon's provincial Liberal leadership candidacy has been endorsed by 19 MLAs - 11 of whom are executive council members. And, in an email sent to party cardholders, Labour Minister Iain Black highlighted those endorsements as part of a pitch for Mr. Falcon. But that pitch might backfire among Liberals who prefer to listen to the wisdom of the people rather than the wisdom of their politicians. After all, according to Mr. Black, "The informed and considered decision by our elected leaders, who best understand what talents and perspectives it takes to govern and to lead - is showing Kevin Falcon stands alone as the clear choice for our next premier." The following is a complete copy of that email.
From: Iain Black
Subject: REMINDER: Meet Kevin Falcon TODAY at 5:30 in PoCo
(This email has been sent by me, personally, using the party-provided email addresses for BC Liberal members in our riding. I don't send bulk emails too often, and am forbidden to share them - my thanks for your patience.)
I am delighted my choice for the next leader, Kevin Falcon, is coming in a couple of hours to Dewy's Pub and Restaurant (1125 Nicola Avenue, Port Coquitlam - near Costco). He'll be there at 5:30-7:00.
Our campaign has been steadily developing great momentum, gaining my friend and Finance Minister Colin Hansen as a resounding Falcon supporter just this morning. Colin first joined the BC Liberal party in 1969 at age of 17, and in the past 40 years has become an iconic figure in both the federal and provincial Liberal parties, and a pillar of strength in our provincial coalition. He joins Ministers Ida Chong and Dr. Margaret MacDiarmid who declared for Kevin earlier this week. The informed and considered decision by our elected leaders, who best understand what talents and perspectives it takes to govern and to lead - is showing Kevin Falcon stands alone as the clear choice for our next premier.
All those who have heard Kevin speak - hear his passion for the people of BC, and his obvious deep knowledge of those things that matter to us, like health and education - have come away with an understanding of why our campaign has gathered strength and thousands of supporters along the way, right across BC.
Your opportunity to experience this firsthand is this afternoon at 5:30. I hope you join us.
Yours - Iain.
PS - already committed to another candidate? Come out anyway! - We'd love to see you!
Hon. Iain J.S. Black
MLA (Port Moody-Coquitlam) and
Minister of Labour, Province of BC
