Earlier, we reported a Facebook page has been setup encouraging Mike Farnworth to run for the provincial New Democrat leadership. And now Mr. Farnworth has released a statement saying he'll be "listening to my caucus colleagues, party members and British Columbians" over the next "number of weeks" to determine if he throws his hat into that race. The following is a complete copy of that statement.
Statement from Mike Farnworth on BC NDP Leadership
December 10, 2010
In response to media speculation regarding his candidacy for the leadership of the BC New Democratic Party, Port Coquitlam MLA Mike Farnworth has released the following statement:
"I'm humbled by the support and encouragement I have received from British Columbians who are hungry for change. For too long, we have had a government that works against people- instead of with them. This must end.
Running for the leadership of the BCNDP is not a decision that can be rushed or made lightly. The next leader must be someone who can unite our party and win an election against determined opponents.
Over the next number of weeks, I will be listening to my caucus colleagues, party members and British Columbians who are ready for change to determine if I am that candidate."
