Northern views

North Coast provincial New Democrat legislator Gary Coons has added his name to the list of dissident MLAs supporting Jenny Kwan calling for a leadership convention. In an email sent to a number of media outlets, including Public Eye, Mr. Coons stated Ms. Kwan is "the beacon of the NDP and has endured through the most difficult times in the party's history. Her decision, I am sure, was one not taken lightly and was very difficult to do. I agree that the BC NDP needs a leadership contest for renewal, to unify the party and to re-energize the membership." MLAs Harry Lali and Nicholas Simons have already told Kamloops radio station CHNL they too support a leadership convention. Both CHNL and The Globe and Mail's Justine Hunter are reporting Norm Macdonald is also of that opinion. The following is a complete copy of Mr. Coons's email.

I support Jenny Kwan in her decision to come out and call for a leadership convention. She is the beacon of the NDP and has endured through the most difficult times in the party's history.

Her decision, I am sure, was one not taken lightly and was very difficult to do.

I agree that the BC NDP needs a leadership contest for renewal, to unify the party and to re-energize the membership.

I see and hear NDP members and the BC public calling for change.

I think that it's essential we are positioned so we can show people that we're not just the second-worst choice.

We, the NDP, need to present a progressive, alternative based on social democratic principles.

I am a proud and loyal New Democrat that takes seriously the principles of what we and the thousands of party members stand for.

I am optimistic that as a party we will concentrate on rebuilding and invigorating our members...that we will develop policies that are meaningful to British Columbians and focus on the core values that the NDP have always fought for.

---- Once upon a time in BC ,
there was a 2-women oppostion....!

Together, they were the GREATEST OPPOSITION EVER ...!!!!!

---- guess who was part of that ...?

ted...

- the Liberals in opposition ,,,? took on the "job" as some kind of sport ,,,

like a food-ball game , the opposed for the sake of opposing ...!

- the 2-woman opposition ,,,?

had plenty of reason's for opposing
... LIKE , THE SALE OF BC-RAIL

and pay-off's & loans to Cambell in-sider's ...!

---- Sean , ?

( What's up with that... )

Christy-Clark , used to stand up in the house
and defend the Fiberal's

Until the day she quit ...!

------- when she was in Gov , I worked in media ----

every thing is still availible on HANSARD ...!

you can see everything that was said ....!

Christy Clark is a "GOOD CHEER-LEADER" , but
she is not a coach...

---- Jenny Kwan ...? -----

She is great. But she /we know , that she is NOT the kind of peorson that need's to lead the NDP.

We all know she want's to work for a good and just-cause .

Her record is im-peck-able ( un ~ im - peaceable ) on issues of poverty ( AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED )

---- Again , check "Hansard" if you don't b;eave ---

Jenny is smart ,

and I think she has the right kind of question to ask .

--- As the "MEDIA" brain~wash's us into bleaving that LEADER-SHIP is important ,,,

be~ing the leader of something that run's it's self ,
seem's more democratic.

simply , if the NDP put froward a leader
that refect's that it's only doing what the "common-member ask them to do" is a party that that I'm willing to suport ...!

--- we should listen to Jenny ...!

and don't fall into the trap that she is thinking that she is the one either .

"she's a good - worker , but I don't think she want's to be the boss" ...!

( leader what ever ) but I do think she want's ( like me ) to work for the common good in poeple who stuggle .

-------- sorry for being winded tonight ----

Why is James so worried about the idea of being accountable to the membership, and not just the caucus? She blew the last election and knows it, she expelled a caucus member, without any consultation. she reversed a long standing NDP position by letting Agriculteral land go into a treaty with no provincial oversight. and punished those caucus members who disagreed with her position. She hired Moe and God only knows who else, without caucus knowing. One person bands don't always do well over time, just ask Gordo. It takes a while to revolt and it seems like now is the time. A all party members vote should clear the air pretty quickly
