The magic number

Here's an interesting factoid: earlier this month, the Liberals announced their embattled leader Gordon Campbell had been endorsed by 84 percent of party members. By coincidence, that's same percentage of New Democrat provincial council delegates who voted down a resolution proposing a leadership convention in 2011 - which would have, in affect, put their embattled leader Carole James out of a job. Fancy that!

I am a Young New Democrat who attended provincial council and was strongly pressured to wear the scarf and vote in favour of Carole despite my personal feelings. Why was it not a secret ballot? And then lots of people abstained. I was told that I wouldn't have a future in the party if I did what I felt was right.
