Claude Richmond has joined the ranks of former provincial Liberal cabinet ministers turned lobbyists. Earlier this month, he registered to represent the interests of Mike Wiegele Helicopter Skiing Ltd. At issue: "ensuring land tenure & public safety." In an interview with Public Eye, Mr. Richmond explained, "I haven't done anything yet. I'm going to help him. They're concerned about tenure because he has a very expensive operation. And, of course, they're very concerned about public safety. Let's put it this way: whenever there's an emergency - someone's caught in an avalanche - they call Mike Wiegele to use his helicopters and his people to go and get them. And he's concerned enough attention isn't being paid to safety by the general public. So he asked me to do this and other minor things for him."
