Money politics

Earlier, Public Eye was the first to tell you the spending cap for provincial Liberal leadership candidates was $450,000. That's $375,000 more than the previous limit. And it's significantly higher than the cap the New Democrats used during their last leadership race. In an interview with Public Eye, party communications officer confirmed the spending limit for those looking to succeed Joy MacPhail in 2003 was $150,000. There was also a $3,500 entrance fee for that race. By comparison, the Liberals are asking leadership hopefuls to put up $25,000 to be on their ballot.
