Consider this an example of inauspicious timing: earlier, we reported the provincial New Democrats have been paying party president Moe Sihota a stipend using a "generous, earmarked gift from the labour movement." Those payments have stirred up controversy within caucus and among the rank-and-file. Nevertheless, Surrey-Fleetwood MLA Jagrup Brar is inviting supporters to attend a party fundraiser celebrating Mr. Sihota's twenty-fifth year in politics! But at least one invitee - a New Democrat constituency assistant - won't be going. In a comment posted on the Facebook page for that event, the assistant wrote, "No thank you. Am not overly happy with Moe at the moment." Tickets to the event, which will take place on November 18 at The Grand Taj Banquet Hall in Surrey, are $100.
