It's about class

"Put me in the pro-James category." That what former provincial New Democrat party communications officer David Bieber stated in an email sent to Public Eye regarding Carole James's decision to expel Cariboo North MLA Bob Simpson from the opposition caucus. "She's leading the party - and the caucus - away from the older class war frame that limits public support for the new democrats and attempting to change the impression that the left doesn't care about or understand economic issues, positions supported by the majority of ordinary party members in my experience," Mr. Bieber stated. In a posting on his blog, Ms. James's former chief of staff Ian Reid has also voiced his support for the opposition leader. Meanwhile, former Hospital Employees' Union president Fred Muzin has come out swinging against her in an interview with the Georgia Straight. The following is a complete copy of the relevant portion of Mr. Bieber's email.

She's leading the party - and the caucus - away from the older class war frame that limits public support for the new democrats and attempting to change the impression that the left doesn't care about or understand economic issues, positions supported by the majority of ordinary party members in my experience.

Are there questions about her leadership? Sure. But she generated a huge amount of enthusiasm among members of the party and the public when she talked about ending polarization in bc politics in the lead up to the 2005 election, and I think a lot of the current dissatisfaction is rooted in her shift of focus to a more confrontational and negative tone after 2005.

Now she's got her focus back and is moving forward again. She's reaching out to build the broad foundation of support needed for a government that can deliver on so many of the things the new democrat base would like to see.

It is about class... people versus the corporations and the race to the bottom for the vast majority of people. The NDP should be focusing on people not trying to appeal to business...nor to the current economic schizophrenia that has taken over...good solid economic policy with regulations to stop the insane greed...think egalitarian...thing wealth redistribution...think...
