Ex-party leadership candidate backs Simpson

Former provincial New Democrat leadership candidate Peter Dimitrov is encouraging fellow party members to support Bob Simpson - the Cariboo North MLA who was recently expelled from the opposition caucus by Carole James. In an email, he stated, "Ms. James wanting leadership of the BC NDP needs to come to a close, graceful or otherwise, for the good not just of the party but for the province." Mr. Dimitrov, who ran against Ms. James for the party leadership, also urged MLAs to "resign from caucus to side with him in the Legislature and thereby trigger the impetus to cause the resignation of Carole James and a leadership convention." Mr. Simpson was expelled after writing an op-ed criticizing the leader's speech to the Union of British Columbia Municipalities annual general meeting. The following is a complete copy of Mr. Dimitrov's email.

Now is the time that BC New Democrats and those who, while not being members of the BC NDP but who vote or, are inclined to vote, for the party need to rise up and support Bob Simpson, the MLA that Carole James recently booted from the caucus for uttering a very mild criticism of her remarks made to the UBCM convention recently.

Ms. James wanting leadership of the BC NDP needs to come to a close, graceful or otherwise, for the good not just of the party but for the Province.

I urge all party members to write in support of Bob Simpson and furthermore to write their own MLA's urging them to support Bob, and if need be resign from caucus to side with him in the Legislature and thereby trigger the impetus to cause the resignation of Carole James and a leadership convention - where the democratic electorial rule that ought to govern should be one member one vote - similar to the system used by the federal NDP when Jack Layton was elected.

Yours truly,

Peter Dimitrov

James should have demonstrated some leadership instead of this knee jerk reaction of kicking simpson out of caucus. She has been advocating the liberals speak out against campbell for years and in particular on the hst lies, and could have used this incident to her advantage to encourage the liberal back bench to speak up. instead, james falls back to the party line and reaction. so much for doing this different, carole!!

James needs to resign and allow her party to move forward with someone who can LEAD the party to victory!
