NDP MLA booted from caucus

Provincial New Democrat legislator Bob Simpson has been booted from caucus for criticizing party leader Carole James. Yesterday, Mr. Simpson penned an op-ed stating Ms. James had "little concrete to offer" when she spoke to the Union of British Columbia Municipalities annual general meeting last week. We also exclusively reported his constituency association executive had passed a motion calling for a leadership race at the party's upcoming 2011 convention. In a brief statement posted on the party's Website, Ms. James stated Mr. Simpson had been kicked out because "he would rather criticize our work than contribute to it. He has made it clear that he does not want to be part of our team."

An ex-provincial Liberal constituency association president, Mr. Simpson quit that party following the 1996 election. The former community and human resource development consultant was subsequently elected as a New Democrat in 2005.
