A real page turner?

A real page turner?

The provincial New Democrats may be beating the Liberals in the polls. But the party's magazine doesn't seem to be doing nearly as well, having seen a dramatic decrease in its size and advertisers over the past three years. Back in December 2008, The Democrat was 24 pages long and included 13 advertisements. But the latest edition, which was just mailed to party members, is only eight pages and has just two advertisements. Asked why that was, spokesperson Michael Roy stated, "I can't speak to more than the last two issues."

"But we made a choice for the one we did in March that because we wanted to do a short one that we would just cover the costs internally. And this last one we wanted to cover most of the costs through advertising - so we solicited more advertisers. The length just depends on so many things but is largely reflective of the fact our financial resources are limited at this point and we're working with what we have available and we may be seeing longer Democrats as we get further into the election cycle."

The following is a complete our review of The Democrat's most recent issues.
