In May, we reported the man who was appointed to head up a recent review of the British Columbia legislature's independent watchdogs wrote an academic paper accusing Alberta's former auditor general of overstepping his authority. But before Ron Hicks assessed those statutory officers, he was assessing the province's civil servants. According to a news release distributed last year, the former top Alberta bureaucrat was one of four judges for the premier's innovation and excellence awards in 2009. Fancy that! The statutory officers review panel Mr. Hicks chaired has completed its report but that document has not been made public.
