Four-peat's sake

Yesterday, provincial Liberal president Mickey Patryluk told us she didn't know whether she'd be running for re-election, noting that decision could come as late as two weeks before the party's upcoming convention. But it seems she made up her mind a lot sooner than that. In an email sent to the "BC Liberal Team," Ms. Patryluk announced she'll be letting her "name stand for reelection at the November AGM" after discussing the issue with "principal figures in the Party." The following is a complete copy of that message.

From: Mickey Patryluk
Date: Tue, Jun 29, 2010
Subject: A Message from Mickey
To the BC Liberal Team:

Yesterday I received a call from a media outlet. I was asked whether I intend to seek another term as BC Liberal Party President. Because I believe that all of you are entitled to hear about my intentions first, I was rather vague when responding. However, I want you to know that I have discussed this with principal figures in the Party and have decided that I will let my name stand for reelection at the November AGM. I am grateful for the support you have shown me in this role and for the opportunity to represent you as we work together to keep our province strong, led by a BC Liberal government.

President, BC Liberal Party

More probable that no one would go with a vigerous competition against her, since the Party apparatchiks would allow her to use resources within the Party.

Hence the "principal figures in the Party" line.

Most of those re-elections were most likely acclaimations.

Not unheard of in many political parties especially those which are government.

The way the BC Liberals are being run now as a party of privilige and not exactly an exciting place to volunteer one's time, unless you're after a political goodie, she should be tossed out.

Four terms is long enough.

What is interesting about this story is not the fact that Mickey Patryluk is planning to seek re-election as party prez but the fact that someone or someones on the BC Liberal Team got her email to the press so quickly. Sounds like all is not happy on the good ship BC Liberal Team.
