A former New Democrat leadership candidate is complaining his party hasn't doing enough to inform members about its Our Province Our Future initiative. That initiative was launched on April 30 with a one-day conference at the Hyatt Regency Vancouver where "more than 200 British Columbians representing business, labour, not-for-profits, first nations, environmental groups, local governments and community leaders" gathered to discuss the "challenges facing BC today and the opportunities for economic, social and environmental renewal." The conference was followed by a regional summit in Kamloops earlier this week. But lawyer Peter Dimitrov - who ran to be leader of the New Democrats in 2003 - is wondering why the party didn't tell him about those conferences via email or in its newsletter The Democrat.
"I discovered it be chance," Mr. Dimitrov wrote in an email sent to the party. "So here is the question, why are some members of the party not being informed or included. I will now be asking around to ask others the same question regarding this matter."
The following is a complete copy of that email.
During the last BC election campaign I donated $, why don't I get the Democrat sent to me so as to inform me about on-goings such as this, or put on an email list to be informed?
With regard to Our Province Our Future conferences in all honesty, while the paper by the SFU professor is welcome, I would like to see the party reach out to members with economic & business credentials, including law & economics and law and natural resource management backgrounds to participate, otherwise it will be less informed an exercise then it could be. I for one, with an educational and long working history background in development economics including ecological economics, plus a law & working background in water, energy, forestry, mining and indigenous matters was not even informed by the Party that such noteworthy public consultations were planned or taking place -I discovered it by chance. So here is the question, why are some members of the party not being informed or included. I will now be asking around to ask others the same question regarding this matter. Wonder if I should tweet this out? Thank you, Peter Dimitrov, MSc. LL.B.
