Cracks in the crystal ball

Earlier, we reported the ministry of tourism, culture and the arts's September service plan bullishly targeted $13.3 billion in tourism revenues for 2009 and $14.4 billion for 2010. But, just three months before that, Tourism British Columbia vice-chairman Kevin Walker told The Vancouver Sun's editorial board his agency was predicting those revenues would dip to around $12.6 billion in 2009 before climbing up to $13.3 billion in 2010. This, according to a report written by the paper's Bruce Constantineau. And it turns out the ministry's March service plan is now using numbers that are similar to those Tourism British Columbia publicized nine months ago. How strange...
