The commons touch

Federal Liberal parliamentarians may be forced to bunk with the plebs during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. In an email sent yesterday, Vancouver Quadra MP Joyce Murray disclosed some of her colleagues have been "unable to secure accommodation for the short time they will be staying in our city." As a result, Ms. Murray is asking friends who have a "spare bedroom within 10-12kms from BC Place" to "host a Liberal Senator or Member of Parliament while they spend a few days in Vancouver." The following is a complete copy of that email, which was obtained exclusively by Public Eye.

Subject: Host an MP or Senator during the Games

Dear Friends,

As the Official Opposition Critic responsible for Amateur Sport and the Vancouver Olympics I have been encouraging my Liberal colleagues in the House and Senate to join us all in Vancouver as we cheer on our athletes towards Olympic gold.

Many Liberal Caucus members have confirmed with me that they will be in Vancouver for the Games. However, there are some who are unable to secure accommodation for the short time they will be staying in our city.

I am trying to arrange accommodation for my colleagues and I am asking you to help support their involvement by offering to host a Liberal Senator or Member of Parliament while they spend a few days in Vancouver.

If you have a spare bedroom within 10-12kms from BC Place and are willing to provide it to a Liberal Parliamentarian, then please contact Gabe at murraj1a@parl.gc.ca for details.

I look forward to seeing you all soon for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games!

Best regards,

Joyce

Joyce Murray

Member of Parliament for Vancouver Quadra
