In 2005, as part of an effort to distance themselves from the labour movement, provincial New Democrats voted to reduce the number of union delegates at party conventions. But that hasn't stopped the New Democrats from taking labour money to bankroll those events. According to the party's Website, seven of the ten sponsors for this weekend's convention are unions! They include the British Columbia Federation of Labour, the Canadian Labour Congress, the Canadian Union of Public Employees British Columbia, District Council 38 of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, the Hospital Employees' Union, United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 1518 and the United Steelworkers. Fancy that!
