Earlier, we reported the provincial Liberals recently returned two prohibited contributions from the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre - an "apolitical" registered charity. In an interview with Public Eye, aquarium spokesperson Kent Hurl explained those contributions - which were made in 2006 - weren't cash donations. Instead, they represent the value of tickets to a Beluga Encounter.
Mr. Hurl said PACE Communication Group Inc., the company headed by prominent Liberal supporter Norman Stowe, had requested an item for a fundraising auction. "And, unbeknownst to us, it was used at a Liberal Party fundraiser." He added that, in September 2008, the aquarium adopted a new donation policy that should ensure such donations won't happen again.
