Today, federal Green leader Elizabeth May told the Saanich News's Keith Vass she is "definitely, definitely leaning strongly" toward running in Saanich-Gulf Islands. But, following an interview with Ms. May, The Vancouver Sun's Barbara Yaffe reported it was a done deal.
In fact, Ms. May seemed to send a similar message to supporters Monday while at a potlatch lunch hosted by peace activist Jan Slakov.
Asked whether the Green leader told attendees she'd be running in Saanich-Gulf Islands during the next election, Ms. Slakov said, "The official announcement has yet to happen. But I do believe that's what she's gearing up for."
She also said that announcement would happen "after Labour Day" when Public Eye suggested the date for that event might be September 8, adding, "They discussed it but I'm worried about giving false information secondhand, thirdhand."
As recently as August 6, Ms. May told the The Sun Times in Owen Sound that she was "definitely tempted" to run in Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, mentioning Guelph as another possibility.

Is Elizabeth reverting to "old boys "style politics?
Does the woman actually know why she is in poltics? She wantd a seat, any seat and no matter where she goes, its very ublikely she could get one. But the folks who actually vote green means money for her party. Money means some publicity.
The only thing Lizzy May wants is money, she will jump anywhere for money, she won`t get elected anywhere,on the island,Nove Scotia or the Yukon.....Last federal election she was willing to toss out all the green party initiatives for a ministry in the coalition....Or as she said herself when asked about the green enviromental plan on CPAC...:Well sometimes we have to sacrifive our goals:.....A money grubbing wannabe somebody.......Go back to Nova Scotia Lizzy May
Common guys, you're being too rough on her. She just wants to be the girl by the sea. Besides, just think how much more exciting the political landscape will be with at least one party leader from BC.
Seriously "HIC", do you think anyone gets involved with the Green Party for want of money.
Elizabeth May would have made double working in the private sector, with a institutional financed NGO, with her credentials than what she is getting paid for being the Green Party leader. I'm not sure her salary, but its probably no more than an average teacher makes.
If she was in it for money alone, she would never have joined the Green Party.
The Green Party is for those of us who aren't yet willing to sell out our values for a few bucks. Those people are called Liberal and Conservatives.
Greens Party spend hundreds of hours of their time with no or little financial reward. We do so out of passion, not greed.
Central Nova was a poor riding to run in. I would be glad to welcome her to BC.
