Last month, we reported Canada Wide Media Ltd. chairman and chief executive officer Peter Legge has twice put Premier Gordon Campbell on the cover of BCBusiness Magazine - in part, to support the provincial Liberal's re-election effort. But those aren't the only occasions where a publication owned by Mr. Legge has splashed the premier on its cover.
In March 2003 - just before two weeks before Premier Campbell was scheduled to plead no contest to a drunk driving charge in Hawaii - TV Week Magazine featured an interview with the Liberal leader, along with what The Province's Michael Smyth described as "the best picture I've seen of Campbell."
Speaking with Mr. Smyth, the publication's editor Brent Furdyk explained, "It's an experiment. We want to branch out and feature fascinating local people." Although he conceded, "A lot of people didn't think it was appropriate. We had a call from an irate man who lost a family member to drunk driving."
