Will former Burnaby city councillor Lee Rankin run for the provincial Liberal nomination in Burnaby-Edmonds? That's what we hear. Although Mr. Rankin - who served eight-terms in office, topping the civic polls in 2005 - hasn't returned repeated phone calls placed yesterday.
Mr. Rankin, a former New Democrat, resigned from the party in September 1999, telling The Province's Frank Luba, "I just wanted to distance myself from this corrupt group." In November, he failed in his bid to win another term on council, placing ninth in the polls.
Burnaby-Edmonds is presently held by New Democrat Raj Chouhan, who won the riding with 46.7 percent of the vote in the last election.
