Federal Liberal leader Stephane Dion may not seem like much of a party animal. Nevertheless, on Friday, he'll be at speaking at a town hall meeting at the University of British Columbia student union building's party room. That meeting will be followed by weekend roundtable events in Victoria, which have yet to be announced.

I presume this is in connection with the Vancouver-Quadra byelection, so will Joyce Murray be on the platform with Dion?

It was a bit of a shock today seeing election signs on Granville. For a moment I wondered if the latest round of election rumours were being taken dead seriously by Red and Blue operatives in the silk stocking riding. It took a orange and green Rebecca Coad NDP sign to jog my memory and recall there will be a byelection on March 17th. There will also be one in the northern Saskatchewan riding of Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River, which was also a previously Liberal seat. That's the seat where Dion cruelly crushed the hopes of his one-time helper, David Orchard, and instead appointed provincial NDP turncoat Joan Beatty as the Grit candidate. Beatty had just been relected as a provincial NDP MLA in November!

Personally, I find it hard to believe that the brains trust in Ottawa, in any of the parties, would want to go to the people in a general election without seeing the results of these byelections.
