Another brick in the wall

The Vancouver Island News Group has declined further comment on Victoria News editor Keith Norbury's controversial firing. Earlier today, we provided publisher Penny Sakamoto an opportunity to respond to criticism levelled against the group by Canadian Association of Journalists president Mary Agnes Welch. Her response: I "understand you were able to reach (president) Mark Warner (last week), so I (think) that should do it from our company's point of view."

The so called freebie newspapers such as Mr. Blacks show up at our development with large amount of advertising and , really not that much news. They are shilling for their advertisers and news gathering is secondary. Our recycling of paper is getting bigger all the time. I guess since we don't pay, they write what they want and if a staffer gets some car outfit upset, well the staffer goes somewhere else.I prefer on line papers such as 24 hours, or Tyee

I see that the Wheatons now own a bank and insurance company as well. General Bank of Canada, located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, is owned by the Wheaton Group of Companies, the largest General Motors franchised dealer network in Canada. The incorporation of a bank further expands the financial services of the Group which currently owns a regulated life company, First Canadian Insurance Corporation, and a property and casualty company, Millennium Insurance Corporation. General Bank of Canada is the first privately held chartered bank in Canada.

Why haven't any of the bigger stations/papers picked up this story? Is Victoria REALLY such a small town that fellow reporters aren't bothering to stick up for these fired journalists? Come on people, grow some balls and fight. The fact that Sean is the only guy covering this is crap. Total utter crap.

A very good reason, Dark, for the value we place on having Sean.
