The federal government will be making a major announcement in Victoria next Monday at Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt. The event will feature National Defence Minister Gordon O'Connor, Chuck Strahl - British Columbia's political minister - and, possibly, Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Conservative staffers were spotted doing advance work for the announcement earlier today.
Harper doing a Defence announcement? How novel and creative.
Maybe he will drop a hockey reference and stop in at a Tim Hortons.
What do I mean maybe ...
It's nice that we here in B.C. will be getting a chance to say "bye-bye" before Minister O'Goner is canned during the dog days of summer.
stunts like this won't stop the Tories from tanking on the south island.
I have a stupid question. Will the local MPs Keith Martin and Denise Savoie be invited to take part in the announcement?
I'd guess yet another re-announcement of those three new supply ships for the Navy, but Strahl being there suggests there'd be some sort of BC-specific pork involved.
Gordon's not going anywhere, he'll be the Minister in Feb 2009 when we're done our turn in Afghan. I doubt there will even be a major shuffle.
"Gordon's not going anyhere", eh?
I doubt there'll be major shuffle either given that Steven Harper is a bit handicapped in finding enough replacements to fill the posts that ought to be vacated.
But, no matter if O'Conner's considered a "major" or a "minor" he definitely will be ancient history by '09 as should Canada's troubled and growing nightmare in Afghanistan.
Perhaps Harper will hand that portfolia over to Peter MacKay to stew in until voters in Central Nova get a chance to let him spend mor time with his dog.
In fact I think the whole pack may be heading for the dog house, but not soon enough.
Harper will be in Kelowna on Monday July 9. $25 a head for 'invited guests'. Source: CHBC
