Peter O'Neil, The Vancouver Sun's Ottawa bureau chief, is taking a two-year leave of absence to become CanWest News Service's European correspondent. Mr. O'Neil will be hopping across the pond in August - although the European bureau isn't scheduled to open until September. The Sun is not presently planning on filling Mr. O'Neil's old job.
I quit reading that outdated thing a long time ago, so I really don't care, but I'm sure some editor will get Aspered and use the Citizen, National Post or CP wire, dressed up with the usual local schlock pic to give a westcoast flair.
I do, however, wish Peter O'Neil the best in Europe.
And, he will be even further away from the Sun than during his last two decades in Ottawa.
It is completely ridiculous that they wouldn't replace Peter O'Neill. It just shows how the Vancouver Sun does not want to be relevant in national affairs. Does the Los Angeles Times not have a correspondent in Washington?
Shame.
