Playing with pucks

Among provincial New Democrats, June and shadow cabinet announcements seem to go together like green eggs and hams. Party leader Carole James named her starting lineup of government critics on June 21, 2005. Then, on June 29, 2006, she shuffled them. And now we're hearing talk another shuffle could take place later this month.

My pick is Budd Campbell for House Leader.

Oops, I forgot. He already works for caucus.

If Budd Campell works for Caucus, no wonder the NDP is as bad as they are.

Crikey, this group has to be worst Opposition ever seen since Bob Skelly and his New Beginnings.

Red Dog, that would be the Bob Skelly and New Beginnings that went on to scoop a bigger NDP vote share than Harcourt or Clark?

Let’s face it, while the NDP did a good job roasting John Les, they are not likely to “win the lottery” with another gimmee issue again soon. They need to start digging up issues of their own. Some NDP MLA’s actually work on their critic portfolio’s while others do absolutely nothing and seem clueless and ill informed like Sather suggesting that BC exports raw Cedar logs. That just makes the NDP look stupid.

Part of the problem for her critics is that Carole James doesn’t take a stand on most issues, so that does not give them much direction either. Can someone please tell me why Carole James still can’t figure out where she stands on the Port Mann expansion? How about the Delta treaty and resulting ALR lands ? I am still unclear on how Carole James has said she is against the Olympics but Harry Bains says otherwise. Horgan want’s cheap gas but the NDP oppose offshore oil and gas exploration. Does this make sense ? It’s OK as long as it comes from someone’s else’s back yard ?

The NDP needs direction and all the cabinet shuffling in the world cannot overcome a weak flip flopping leader who cannot figure out where she stands on an issue. Budd, as the resident NDP apologist and worshipper of the “strong and decisive” Carole James can you please tell me why your “strong and decisive” leader cannot take a position on even a simple issue like the Port Mann expansion ???? Why does this take two years and still nothing ?

Let us hope that Carole James shuffles herself right out of government! God she is just so terrible, like a nagging fishwife.

If the NDP ever want to put an end to the Campbell government, GET RID OF JAMES!

In my view it appears that the Campell support team of numerous PR Hacks spend a lot of time, on our dollar trolling blogs and doing their best to discredit the opposition leader. Today, the Canwest editorial in the T/C says its time for John Wes be fired. Havn't see his defence team here yet. Les Lyne, same paper has a few choice words as well. Are we about to hear that Les Lyne is a opposition supporter?

DL, sorry for the ad hominem attack, but you're completely out to lunch. One can still be a Lefty or NDP supporter and criticize Carole James.

And you misspelled "Campbell"

Well, Scaramanga, welcome to the Banned from Babble Club. Of the 14,000 or so Babble "members" only a few are active at any time, so the rest are presumably in the Banned Club. It's really quite funny you think I work for the NDP Caucus. I am probably one of the few posters who comments in NDP related threads who isn't employed by either the Caucus or the NDP Provincial HQ.

The intense desire of some NDP good ol' boys to force Carole James from office is palpable in most of these threads, and is the key motivation behind moves to force absurd and violently unpopular policy stands (eg blanket opposition to Port Mann and Hwy 1) onto the party. By causing the party to take a further downward notch in public opinion polls from adopting that kind of rubbish, some ambitious people seek to re-open the leadership, and then once they've claimed that prize, fix up the policy mess they themselves created and hope that no one notices the policy flip-flop.

"Red Dog, that would be the Bob Skelly and New Beginnings that went on to scoop a bigger NDP vote share than Harcourt or Clark?"

It was also the Bob Skelly and New Beginnings that failed miserably in 1986. Even Bob Skelly choked on the first day of the 1986 election.

Koko Ryn said "DL, sorry for the ad hominem attack, but you're completely out to lunch. One can still be a Lefty or NDP supporter and criticize Carole James." As for being out to lunch! I am most certainly not out to lunch and am geting just a bit tired of hearing how awful the opposition leader is at running her caucus. Campbell and Co. have done some rotten things to the average citizen, but it's so much easier to blame James. She brought the NDP from three members to the 35 plus now in the cuacus.

So I must have rattled someones chain. Big deal I actually spelled Gordo's name wrong. If the NDP delegates want to drop James, that's up to them. I rather doubt the fellow jumping on my comment which basically was a repeat of the journalists columns is a NDP supporter. Want a new leader, get nominated to go the convention route and find a bunch more folks with the same opinion that you have.

Good point, DL.

And where Ms James really shows up well is in HANSARD which could provide dramatic material for a thousand B.C. editorials ... but nooooooooooo,

what we get instead, from our print and broadcast Big Media, is very much like bleatings: NDP ... bad, NDP very very ba-a-ad!

Sometimes it's comical. No matter how outrageous the Campbell government's actions, somehow it's explained as being the fault of the New Democrats.

Like the day Glen Clark, former head honcho of BC Ferries, opened his mouth to say that an accident report by the Transport Safety Board on the tragic sinking of Queen of the North should've been presented a year ago ... but noooooooo, first CanWest had us read/hear paragraphs about what a bad, bad, very bad person Clark was (not). Only then were we permitted to hear what this former BC Ferries Cabinet minister was saying: that he got such reports within 3 months; that we shouldn't have to wait a year or more, to know why we lost that ship and two citizens.

You're right, DL. We get mad at the wrong person (Carol James) ... we should get mad at the Campbell government and CanWest Global in that order.
