Earlier this week, the Vancouver Courier's Allen Garr reported Mayor Sam Sullivan has been courting the monied classes as part of his fundraising campaign. Mr. Garr's evidence: in part, luxury cars parked outside a spring cocktail reception at Vancouver Board of Trade member Lorne Segal's "$5.1 million (2006 assessed value), three-acre estate." Quipped the columnist, "This was a not a meeting of the "bike to work week" organizing committee." So is it coincidental that the invitation for Mayor Sullivan's upcoming annual barbeque - which was sent out today - doesn't list where it will be held? The following is a complete copy of that invite.

Here's an idea.
Perhaps the reporters could go as supporters under cover and then troll for the information they need by chatting with Sam the Mayor.
Worked with the Vancouver Police Department when they wanted to bag David Campbell of APC.
Actually, I can hardly blame the Sams for keeping the venue secret...the APC or some other nutbar group would serve to destroy an otherwise private event. Even Sam deserves that much.
But if memory serves, the last time one of these "secret location" scenarios was trotted out, it was because they were having a hard time getting the person they wanted to commit to hosting to do so.
I have to admit, though, the vision of Allen peeking through the bushes of Lorne Segal's home is comical...why not just dispatch someone to speak to the media, whoever it happens to be, parked outside such an event?
Once again, media relations from the Mayor's Office a la the Bush White House. Some days it seems like NO changes were made.
Jesus Murphy, even the Prime Minister has more respect for the press than this crew.
