This morning, on Public Eye Radio, Vancouver Elementary School Teachers' Association president Glen Hansman and former Vancouver school trustee Jane Bouey discuss why the provincial Liberals voted down a legislative amendment that would helped protect students from homophobic bullying. Former Liberal legislator Rod Visser joins us to discuss the New Democrat's controversial sustainable aquaculture report. And former New Democrat leadership candidate Mehdi Najari will be discussing the MLA pay-and-pension panel debacle. Also on the show: our rabble-rousing panel - Don Anderson, Alex Tsakumis, Allan Warnke and Brad Zubyk - debate the week that was in provincial and federal politics. You can listen to Public Eye Radio outside of Victoria by logging into CFAX 1070 between 8:30 and 10:00. If you have a question for one of our guests, you can email us, leave a comment below or phone (250) 386-1161 during the show.
Dont these BCTF activists ALWAYS wonder something that provincial liberals do? We all know why these bills are introduced in the first place with NDP pledging to recruit more "minority" candidiates.

Minority in regards to what, FHK?
Political smarts? The NDP sure are in the minority when it does come to political smarts.
Our leader doesn't have any.
this radio show needs to be a podcast cuz the days of waking up and listening are over - I want to hear what happens but at my convenience - please get it done or be small and irrelevant forever.
thanks.
The disappointment expressed by the representative of the Vancouver elementary teachers and a former school trustee is that the provincial government has not yet carried through in setting policy to ensure the safety of all children and youth in schools. Pretty hard to learn if you don't feel safe in your school, and the Safe Schools Task Force, commissioned by the BC Liberal government over five years ago, heard repeatedly that homophobic and racist bullying happens throughout the province's schools. Not that those are the only reasons for bullies to be bullies, but they are reasons that are all too prevalent. However, these are reasons that adults--teachers, parents, administrators, school trustees, and elected MLAs--can deal with by showing decisive leadership in committing to establishing safe and positive learning environments for all kids, and ensuring that no child or youth has to deal with harrassment and bullying.
This show is small and irrelevant because you can't get out of bed by 9oclock on a Sunday morning? These guys are smart and funny. I know a lot of people who can't wait for their Sunday morning dose of Holman and his panel. It is really good radio.
Kudos to the Vancouver folks (Hansman, Bouey & Gregory) for standing up for our kids and demonstrating leadership after most of our gutless MLAs lacked the (I don't know what to call it) to just come out and state that it's not OK to bully kids, either because they're gay or because calling them "gay" happens to be the most effective label for marking them as a target for abuse.
I've heard my child's friends using "gay" taunts since Grade 4 (in some cases in front of and with the tacit approval of their parents), even when it has absolutely nothing to do with anyone's sexual identity. It's a very real problem in our schools, with potentially devastating consequences for many kids, and it won't go away until the grown-ups start showing they've outgrown their own schoolyard pack mentality.
(...and yes, like Michael T said, the Sunday morning timing sucks!)
