This Friday, former independent council candidate Jamie Lee Hamilton will be hosting an "informal get-together" for Tim Louis at the Pendera Building on West Pender Street. And what's the reason for this get-together, you may wonder? Well, in an email sent to friends and associates, Ms. Hamilton writes the former Coalition of Progressive Electors councillor "is wanting to bring a special message about his future plans." Whatever could that mean? The following is a complete copy of that email.

Subject: Request of You to Meet Someone
Dear Friends,
This Friday May 18, 2007 at 8pm, I'm hosting an informal get-together for former City Councillor, Tim Louis. This event will be in the main floor common room at the Pendera, which is located at 133 West Pender Street.
Tim and his partner, Penny Parry have done amazing work for Vancouver's cultural diverse communities. Tim is a practising lawyer and is a founder of the Handi-Dart transit system. He served for six years as a Vancouver Park board Commissioner before being elected to City Council in 1999 where he remained until 2005. Penny Parry, his longtime partner, is a former Child and Youth Advocate for the City of Vancouver and was instrumental in bringing attention to the plight of homelessness back in the mid 1990's. Most recently, she was instrumental in ensuring Vancouver adopted the ethical purchasing policy for the City.
Tim is wanting to bring a special message about his future plans. I have had a long respect for Tim Louis, who helped me out enormously in 1988 when I was facing discrimination at Vancouver Community College. Tim was successful in bringing my situation to a satisfactory conclusion. So without question, I have always had immense respect for Tim and Penny too. I encourage my friends to stop by and say hello to Tim and Penny. And whatever Tim's request are, I am hopeful that you can assist him.
Please RSVP if possible. I will see you on Friday, May
18 at 8pm at 133 West Pender Street.
Cheers
Jamie Lee
Would this be the same Jamie Lee who was nominated by COPE in 1996 for city council then blew up and quit during the election, denouncing COPE all the way?
Or would it be the Jamie Lee who endorsed Sam Sullivan against Jim Green and joined the NPA to support his nomination?
Tim Louis - meet Jamie Lee Hamilton - and have a great time!
So Tim is making a 'special message' about his future plans, but then Jamie Lee goes on to say that "whatever Tim's request are, I am hopeful that you can assist him."
seems to me she already knows what he's announcing. Presumably it's the unexpected announcement that he is running for council and endorsing Fred Bass. Or supporting his slate.
Wonder if this means that Tim Louis will end wearing Che Guevara T shirts?
Most likely Tim Louis will be returing as a candidate in the next Vancouver Civic election
with some kind of announcement for Vision Vancouver
Just another usual day in Vancouver.
Walking Stanley Park would be far more interesting
and refreshing.
I would love to attend this inspiring event put on by these amazing people. Too bad I am already booked that night as I am walking on broken glass, followed-up by having my eyes poked out.
Louis should give it a rest. The voters spoke in the last election.
The fact that Tim Louis is going to Jamie Lee Hamilton for help shows just how desperate Vancouver's insular and silly-bugger hard left has become since the city's moderate left grew up and divorced them.
I cannot wait to see to whom David Cadman will evenutally supplicate himself!
Sometimes I really have to wonder......
JLH, you're supporting someone who glorifies a murderous thug like Che Guevara. In fact, Tim Lose-it thinks he was a freedom fighter. Instead of being upset (without cause), think about the message you are sending to the public. You undo part of your credibility--something you worked awfully hard at with all the great work you've done defending the DTES and the GLBT community (at least the sane part of it).
I welcome the opportunity to challenge Louis on his support of Che Guevara. Can I come out and ask him to defend himself on that? May I bring the media? It's high time someone put the boots to Louis and his crew, who hide under freedom of expression, when all they offer is hurt.
At some point, dear heart, you will have to stick to a political path, that, in the main, may offer short expeditions down adjacent trails, but doesn't take you into the depths of the woods, where you are likely to get lost among the ferns.
Your support of someone like Tim Louis is assinine regardless of what you think he did for you.
Sorry my dear, on this one, you've lost me.
With respect.
In my humble opinion, since both supported Sam in the last election, I can only assume that they are coming together to announce Sam as their Mayoralty candidate. Given Sam's difficulties with the NPA, it might not be such a bad fit. Dreaming in technicolour.
Do I hear fear in the heart of Vision Vancouver? I'm sure they were hoping all of us in COPE were just going to let them steam roller over us again in the next election.
I hope that Tim announces he's running for Council again and decides to encourage a progressive slate of greens and COPE supporters to take on the NPA and Vision Vancouver. This election, we WILL run a full slate including a mayoral candidate and we won't be bullied by Jim and company into doing otherwise.
If this city is ever to get "progressive" government again, and keep the likes of Stevenson (who is being bankrolled by big developers, big gambling tycoons and the liquor industry) out of the big office, everyone needs to support COPE. There is time to rebuild the party and become a real force in '08.

Ouch
If people like Tim Louis hadn't practically campaigned against Vision and Jim in the last election then maybe we wouldn't have an NPA majority on council today.
Maybe social housing wouldn't have been cut in the Olympic Village. Maybe we would have a moratorium on SRO conversions today. Maybe Vancouver would still have a Child and Youth Advocate. Maybe we wouldn't have had $300,000 cut to the arts, $200,000 cut to the Climate Change budget and a $100,000 cut to the Homeless Action Plan while wasting $12 million dollars on a phone system.
"I hope that Tim (Louis) announces he's running for Council again and decides to encourage a progressive slate of greens and COPE supporters to take on the NPA and Vision Vancouver. This election, we WILL run a full slate including a mayoral candidate..."
And what exactly is most important to these people? It would appear that progressive politics actually means nothing to COPE, while a grudge means the world.
I.Copeman must be priming himself to be Cope's new propaganda minister because only he could think that Tim Louis (Cope disorganizer) and Jamie Lee Hamilton (NPA member) are progressive forces?
COPE is splitting again. Combatting slates are fighting for control of the executive at the next AGM. If the "group of seven" get elected then the war will begin and if they don't, many will just walk away.
COPE is weak and floundering and only a propaganda minister can see hope in that.
So let's see, in today's Georgia Straight http://www.straight.com/article-91246/cope-slate-broadens-base, all of the COPE electeds are backing the non-Louis slate. If that's not a verdict on his leadership over the past two years, I don't know what is.
And to my "brother from a different mother" Copemon, where are all these green candidates who are tripping over each other to run with COPE? They sure are doing a good job at containing their enthusiasm for running on a powerhouse slate led by Fred Bass. It's funny how the hardcore COPE classics are always talking about how the're going to team up with the Greens, but the Greens aren't quite as vocal. Maybe because they don't want to unite with the current leadership?
If COPE's smart they'll elect the group of 7 to get down to business of being an actual political party.
Nice try Foxtrot. I left COPE on a point of principle regarding the sex trade issue in 1996. I sid, I couldn't be controlled by a bunch of backroom boys who DEMANDED THAT i NOT SPEAK OUT ON THIS REALLY IMPORTANT ISSUE. They were controlling the campaign. I ran as an Independent and in 1999 running again as an Indie, I was endorsed by COPE founder and longtime City COPE Councillor, Harry Rankin. Again, I didn't start a party in opposition to COPE. In fact, in that election (1999), I received more votes than a candidate they had endorsed.
And just to be clear, I am not an NPA member. Yes I took out a membership to support Sam Sullivan over the American, Jim Green.
So before you guys try to spin things at least get your facts straight.
And I was opposed to Wards because I am an STV supporter.
Got it guys or girls.
"I am not an NPA member. Yes I took out a membership to support Sam Sullivan.."
So, you are stating for the record that you have allowed your NPA membership to lapse?
I took out a membership to vote for Sam in the contested NPA Nomination. Membership is good for one year and it has expired.
