Man in motion Rick Hansen may not been running for the federal Tory nomination in Vancouver-Quadra. But our understanding is that some party members are hopeful BC Cancer Foundation president and chief executive officer Mary McNeil, who is also a member of the Vancouver Police Board, will be stepping up to the starting line. In 2003, BC Business Magazine recognized Ms. McNeil as one of the top six chief executive officers in British Columbia. University of British Columbia Sauder School of Business law division lecturer Deborah Meredith is presently the only declared candidate in the nomination race.

Deborah Meredith is running as a token candidate and we pretty much all know it. If David Emerson can keep anyone other than Deborah from running, it will make his life a lot easier.
David Emerson is more powerful than anyone from liberals not named Martha Piper with the trend favoring a tory majority government, there is no need for Emerson to risk himself into a dog-fight against Yuan Meng and should simply let NDP take the riding after he moves on.
It's been clear since Emerson switched parties that he would probably have to switch ridings as well. The Owen resignation obviously cleared a path for Emerson to move westward, and really, it's all over but the shouting and the victory toasts. I have said all along that this is how it would unfold, and various Red/Blue bloggers all kept pretending otherwise. Well, what are they pretending now?
