As some of our astute readers may be aware, the Vancouver Quadra federal Liberal nomination meeting was tonight. The winner has just been announced. And it is...drum roll, please...former provincial cabinet minister Joyce Murray on the first ballot with 449 votes. Former Canadian Radio Television and Telecommunications Commission member Cindy Grauer received 251 votes and Ethos Strategy Group partner Catherine Evans got 109.
Congrats to Joyce Murray on a very hard fought campaign. I hope to see Quadra United under Joyce Murray and with help from Catherine Evans and Cindy Grauer. We Liberal's need to continue the Liberal Tradition in Vancouver Quadra and Elect it's 1st Woman MP!
Quadra Rejoyce!
Did anyone else feel uncomfortable considering when you approached the meeting hall, every window was covered in Joyce Murray material? I have to say that I think Quadra will be ill-represented by Joyce. She's NOT from the riding despite her assertions (she may have grown up here, but moving back for an election is something else). She's a parachute candidate plain and simple and I must admit that I have a problem with that.
Joyce Murray was a useless MLA for New West, I am glad we got rid of her to Quadra, they can have her. She will go on to lose that riding.
Paul Martin's group is still in charge, they pushed Stephen Owen out. Federal Liberal are not going through happy times, terrible in fighting. I think they need a term or two in opposition.
"We Liberal's need to continue the Liberal Tradition in Vancouver Quadra"
Representing a party that was bleeding corruption
and patronage to its friends is a tradition that
Quadra wants? At least Stephen Owen had class.
Why is there a need to 'continue the Liberal tradition'? as opposed to electing someone who
can actually accomplish things for the voters?
It's that type of arrogance on the part of our
party that needs to be elimianted.
Mitch
I know you are upset that your candidate did not win and that is understandable. There were three excellent women in the race last night with strong volunteer teams that poured their hearts into this contest. All of these women have very bright futures in the Liberal Party.
Nominations are rough and tumble affairs at the best of times however, it was a fair meeting and the results speak for themselves. Joyce would not have won with the numbers she did without significant support from the rank and file members of the association. This was not an exercise of mass sign ups from one group or another. It was constituency level democracy in action and the Quadra membership can and should be proud of the great turn out.
As for where Joyce is from, you know that she lives in Quadra and spent her formative years in the riding. Besides, it is an irrelevant issue, John N Turner represented Quadra for 9 years, did one hell of a job and never lived in the riding during that time either. We both know that the voters in Quadra will not base their choice in the next election on whether someone lives in the riding or at grandville island or anywhere else.
The voters in Quadra will base their choice on the benefits that the positive Liberal agenda for a greener, fairer more prosperous Canada will bring to their families. That is how it should be.

That's rich. Really. It's pretty funny.
Have you seen how many SUVs there are in Quadra? What do you figure the average electricity bill is for those monster houses?
Oh yes. The voters of Quadra have an environmental commitment. That's rich.
I guess you can tell by all the composting bins in the gardens right?
Joyce trampled the opposition by a massive margin. I could see why the olde guard is embarassed.
Congratulations to Cameron St. John, the winning campaign manager!
