It's a hop, skip and a jump away

Earlier, we reported Steve McClurg had submitted his nomination papers to run for the federal Liberals. But he won't be on the ballot in New Westminster-Coquitlam. In an email, Mr. McClurg tell us "I have decided the most positive place for me to run is in Burnaby-New Westminster. I believe I would only be facilitating a win for the Conservatives in Coquitlam."

Given McClurg's new penchant for switching parties, what assurance have the voters of Burnaby-New Westminster that he won't pull an Emerson? Perhaps he could begin by providing a half-convincing explanation for his sudden embrace of the Federal Liberal Party.

It looks to me like a case of sour grapes, reminiscent of Lee Rankin's defection to the Grtis several years ago. With any luck, the voters will take an equally dim view.

The internet is a funny place, but for ex-NDPer Steve McClurg the humour may get a little strained:

I have given the "cached" versions since McClurg's supporters may soon be pulling down the regular sites.

Progressives are realizing what exactly Jack Layton did to this country when he seconded Stephen Harper's non-confidence motion in November 2005. Layton is SOOO out of touch with common folk, with rural folk, with working folk ... he is the inspiration behind the exodus. Pat Martin was one of the first to point out the king is naked ... more to come. Most importantly, the voters will be pointing that out at the ballot box and Layton will be back selling computer training CD's on late night television.

Will the real Pat Martin, please stand up. As for Is Pat Martin the prophet?, you should know that the Angus Reid Tracker poll released today has the NDP at 17%, the Liberals just five points ahead of that at 22%.

Jack Layton does look a lot like that irritating computer CD guy, eh? Ha ha ha ... hadn't noticed that before!

Before he was an M.P., however, Layton was a Toronto City Councillor for many years. His wife Olivia Chow was, too.

"you should know that the Angus Reid Tracker poll released today has the NDP at 17%, the Liberals just five points ahead of that at 22%."

The results speak for itself!

The Liberals lost the paddles to the boat up shit creek ages ago.

"The Liberals lost the paddles to the boat up shit creek ages ago."

Probably couldn't pay for the gas to power the
6 hp Evinrude outboard either, since alot of
Liberal money went to Adscam with little left over, not to mention they would have to pay GST on the gas to fill the tank, another thing they would get caught on since it was the Chretieniste Liberals and the Martin Liberals that wanted to get rid of the GST anyway.

Well I guess McClurg is a perfect fit for the libs. After all one of the qualifications you have to have to be a candidate is the inane ability to be able to sit on the fence while having your ear to the ground.

I hope sincerely he does get the nomination, but realistically... I doubt he will. After all, what has he won in the past 3 years. New West Coq PoMO... LOST. New West provincial nomination... LOST. N/West COQ PoMo nomination 2005 LOST.

I'm beginning to wonder, given the former new west Liberal MLA's penchant for getting her butt kicked around (so much so, she fled to Quadra to run there after such a disgraceful showing in the 06 election) if its perhaps something in the Liberals water in New West that seems to attract these types of people.

Did anyone mention that McClurg was advised by Greenlight Committee to switch from New West-Coquitlam and file in Burnaby-New West?
It's not the Liberal water in New West, it's the Liberal water in BC that is fishing these types.
There are more than enough qualified and better candidates in the riding, but the word is they all were discouraged to apply for a number of various reasons, including the lack of political experience.
Candidates have been dropping out like hot potatoes after the ever so experienced 26 yrs old Michelle Hassan was parachuted in the riding.
This is yet another sad example of Liberal "democracy" in BC, where accomplished public figures who have a mind of their own and charisma to actually influence the riding and get elected, are strongly discouraged and shut down by the BC Liberals, who are posing as Federal Liberals.
Greenlight Committee having the ultimate power to refuse nomination approval of the candidate for any reason ( they may not like your resume) says it all.
Michelle Hassan was cleaning Joyce Murray's war room quarters last night after Joyce was announced the winner.
I guess we know who is calling the shots in the riding she lost and left, eh?
