Yesterday, The Vancouver Sun's Francis Bula reported The Republic of East Vancouver's publisher Kevin Potvin has been acclaimed as the federal Green candidate in Vancouver-Kingsway. But who else will be running for the party in the upcoming election? Well, that's an excellent rhetorical question. In an interview with Public Eye, David Suzuki Foundation salmon conservation biologist John Werring confirmed he has had some discussions about being the Green candidate in Surrey North - which is presently held by New Democrat parliamentarian Penny Priddy. Asked when he would make an announcement about his political future, Mr. Werring said, "A lot of it is going to depend on what happens in Ottawa. If there's no rush, if there's no spring election, I can just continue doing what I'm doing and not have to worry about it. But, if an election is called, a decision would have to be made rather quickly."
Seems like the Greens are going after the NDP. What happened to working with the NDP Ms. May? Oh, right you were a special assistant to Brian Mulroney's enviro minister.
John Werring would make a great MP, but why blow his chances up against Penny Priddy.
Werring's very astute.I would put him well onto the left side of the greens and not that far off Priddy's own base.
I could easily vote for either. Too bad, we could use them both in Ottawa.
We can us a lot of people in Ottawa, that does not mean they will all get elected. You are not the only one wondering why we have pointless MP like Ujjal Dosanj we threw out in 2001 or Hedy Fry who couldnt resist being a media attention addict.
As for Green Party working with NDP, yes, the will probably be doing that as soon as two-votes PR system in 2050. I hope Canadianw are still alive given the present global warming "crisis"/fairytale.
Potvin should be immediately bounced from his perch at 'The Courier'. Overt political involvement for a journalist is a no-no.
