The Loh down on Vancouver Quadra

Here's a question some of our astute readers have been asking: will former federal Liberal leadership candidate Bob Rae's British Columbia campaign Mason Loh become involved in the Vancouver Quadra nomination race - throwing his considerable support behind someone like Joyce Murray, for example. The answer: "Not at this moment," responded Mr. Loh in an interview with Public Eye yesterday afternoon. But what about in the future? "I don't know." And does he intend to run for a nomination in the Lower Mainland himself? "I don't know yet. There's nothing in particular that I'm looking at yet," said Mr. Loh.

If Mr Loh is to run any where there will be a concerted effort by some Liberals to marginalize him. His is old style ward politics, it's a style who's time has passed as has Mr Loh's best before date.

Sir:

There has already been an effort by "some Liberals" to marginalize Mason Loh. Look no further than Wendie Yuen and her acolytes on the Vancouver Kingsway riding executive, who hijacked the nomination process to their own advantage. First, they got a special dispensation from the Party Exec. to convene an early nomination--last summer!--when there was still a freeze on Party nominations. Then they called the nomination meeting on less than 2 weeks' notice, with the obvious aim of preventing Loh, or anyone else for that matter, from mounting a serious challenge to Yuen. After all, what was the hurry last summer? The Liberals were still months away from electing a new leader.

Talk about "old style ward politics"! Even so, Loh came within a hair's breadth of winning the nomination.

It would be poetic justice if Loh were to run as an independent Liberal in Kingsway.

Yours faithfully,
Field Marshall Sir Vivian Fortescue-Smythe

Sir:

In my previous post, I'm afraid I misspelled the name of the Liberal candidate in Vancouver Kingsway. It should be Wendy Yuan.

My apologies.

Yours faithfully,

What's with people revealing with their names on this blog, or phone numbers? Before we know it we probably will be having one of those mug pictures here too.

I am no liberal, and it is obvious to everyone, liberals or not, that Wendy hijacked the entire nomination process to her advantage. A prominent figure like Mason Loh in the Chinese community should start looking out of the window and start feeling where the wind blows and shall he do so he wont be the first prominent Chinese figure to switch allegiance as well. And I do agree that it will be poetic justice for Mason Loh to run and win the riding, and liberals or not (probably not, he will make an excellent MP.

Hope not looking at mug pictures of candidate nominess and prominent political hacks would make anyone go blind.

This is supposed (I figure) to be a family
oriented news website.

It should never ever get 'graphic'

In reply to FHK, if Mason Loh were to run in Kingsway as an independent Liberal, he would be unlikely to win. However, he might out-poll the Conservative candidate, regardless of who the Harperites end up nominating. It almost certainly won't be Emerson!

The more likely result of a Loh candidacy would be to bleed votes away from Wendy Yuan and to increase the NDP's margin of victory. In any case, the NDP have to be favoured to win this time. Too many left-leaning voters were deceived by the Liberals last time and won't be fooled again.

Speaking of the NDP in Vancouver Kingsway, they will be nominating their candidate this Sunday afternoon (March 18) at Tupper Secondary School. If they choose wisely, they'll nominate Don Davies.

"I am no liberal, and it is obvious to everyone"

No kidding.

"liberals or not, that Wendy hijacked the entire nomination process to her advantage."

Not true. Evidence?

"A prominent figure like Mason Loh in the Chinese community should start looking out of the window and start feeling where the wind blows and shall he do so he wont be the first prominent Chinese figure to switch allegiance as well."

Who cares if a prospective candidate is Chinese?
Doesn't matter. As long as the candidate is seen
by the voters as being the one who can do the
tasks.

"And I do agree that it will be poetic justice for Mason Loh to run and win the riding, and liberals or not (probably not, he will make an excellent MP."

becuase he's Chinese or because he can do the
work?
