Sometimes a fundraiser is just a fundraiser

Earlier, we reported Vancouver-Burrard legislator Lorne Mayencourt's annual fundraiser has been scheduled for March 14. And there's some suspicions he may announce, following that event, whether he'll be running for the federal Conservatives in the next election. So, with that in mind, some of our readers might be interested to know John Reynolds - who co-chaired the national Tory campaign in the last election - has purchased a ticket for that fundraiser. Explained Mr. Reynolds, "I support the B.C. Liberal Party. I obviously support Lorne Mayencourt. And Lyall Knott - a lawyer with Clark Wilson - and myself are both going." But don't read too much into his attendance. "It's just a fundraising dinner for the Liberal Party," continued Mr. Reynolds. "And I wanted to support him and support them."

What is the Conservative government's current position on same-sex marriage?

If they got a majority of the seats, would they once again hold a vote on whether or not to repeal those rights?

The issue has been dealt with and will NOT be revisited.

Period. End.

The conservative party built their entire urban ethnic base and suburban christian base on one main issue: gay-bashing.

It has been a proven winner for them.

Lyall Knott is not simply a lawyer with Clark Wilson. He is, in fact, and has been for many years THE fundraiser for all the BC version of all right of centre Political Parties. These days that translates as Federal Conservative, Provincial Liberal and NPA City Council in Vancouver. Mr. Knott raises the cash, period, end of sentence.

Of late, Knott and Reynolds are inseparable, and, if they are attending, joined at the hip as usual, a fundraiser for Lorne Mayencourt, their answer to the question of why they are there is downright cute. Lorne will be running for the Conservatives, end of sentence, period.

WRONG! The Christian movement DOES NOT run the party! There are far more middle of the road
members than there are those idiot Christian Fundamentalists!!

But if you insist on believing that, I can put you in touch with those who have three money aluminum car ferries, who might be willing to sell for a song and you can make buckets of money operating them.

Well the Conservatives better PROVE that they don't have idiotic Christian Fundamentalists running the party. Last time round, there were definately a presence of that particular demography. Any idea what the next sets of candidates look like?

I like Lorne a lot. But the political graveyard is full of folks who had sweet nothings whispered in their ears during a pre-writ period only to find themselves out of a job come the day after e-day.

And the yard is full of mayors who tried to make the jump provincially, and provincial MLAs who trid to make the jump to federal politics and failed.

The last time I looked, Lorne needed to work for a living. No sense in looking for new work the day after the federal election when he has a pretty good gig at present.

The MAJORITY of conservatives OPPOSE SAME SEX MARRIAGE. (ever heard about the silent moral majority? Yes, they still exist, they are just silent.) I have a feeling that the next government will have majority of the MP's opposing same sex marriage as well. If gay marriage issue is of no concern to Canadians, what's stopping the conservatives from opening the debate again 10 years from now just so they can lock in the Christian/Muslim votes.

As for Lorne Mayencourt, he will be the third straight gay candidate tories have in that riding. Was same sex marriage relevent in that past two elections? You bet, even Christian Heritage Party ran pro-same sex marraige candidate in that riding. But does it matter that Lorne supports same sex marriage or not? It's like asking Lincoln Chafee (ex Republican senator) who voted against George Bush in 2000 and 2004 if he is against the war. As long as tory can beat the liberals in the numbers game, anything else will be irrelevant.

The MAJORITY of conservatives OPPOSE SAME SEX MARRIAGE. (ever heard about the silent moral majority? Yes, they still exist, they are just silent.)

"moral majority" with respect to what and to whom? FHK.

The moral majority certainly do not represent ALL Canadians of the Christian faith.

This issue is done. There will be NO revisiting
of the issue, and since this right is now entrenched into statuatory law from legislation
there would not be any rescinding of the rights
of same sex people to get married.

You'll find that many Christians are very accomodating and unlike some fundamentalists, do adhere to respecting thy neighbour.

This issue is done, the rights of same sex people to get married is entrenched into law and is not worth another pixel in debate.

Mr. Berner--

Thanks for the insight.

"Mr. Berner--

Thanks for the insight."

Mr. Berner???

David Berner?

as in David Berner who used to be on afternoons
on CKNW?

He's slipped to blogging now?

Aww mann... Geezus.. I used to listen to David
Berner when I could. Liked his ancedotes quite
alot. His stories were entertaining and he had
the voice (and the face) for radio.

Geezus.. lowering himself to just a blog?

Man is it that tough in radio?

CKNW should have kept him, and done a better deal
to present the Canucks. Could see retiring that old curmungeon Rafe Mair, but David Berner?

Aww mann. A good broadcaster sinking that far down
to doing a blog?

I've seen good people slide, but this is really
sad to see.

"As for Lorne Mayencourt, he will be the third straight gay candidate tories have in that riding."

Incorrect. The Vancouver-Centre Conservative candidate last time around was straight. Tony Fogarassy.

And perhaps the reason Lorne is running ferderally is that Vancouver-Burrard will more than likely be affected by riding distribution. If Lorne loses Yaletown he's screwed. So why not take a shot federally?

Mr Lorne Mayecourt is a liberal through and through. Just running for the conservative ticket on shock and awe is pretty weak. Mr Mayenourt and Mr John Reynolds along with all there hybrid friends should stay as liberals. Provincial, Federal or both but please don't cheapen the process by not committing to a single ideology.

"Mr Lorne Mayecourt is a liberal through and through."

What makes you so sure of that? Lorne is obviously a conservative. You're under the false impression that everyone under the BC Liberal umbrella is an actual liberal.

Go ask Mary Polak is she is a liberal and see what she tells you. And Lorne campaigned for her during the by-election in 2004!

"by not committing to a single ideology. "

What would that ideology for the federal Liberals
be?

Continued excessive patronage appointments for the Federal Liberal Boys?

continued candidate appointments?

continued packing the Senate of Party people starting at age 35?

The ideaology of this sick party of ours has to change in case the party gets back to its old bad habits again.

Phone number, Jim? Are you craving extra attention or something?

Mr. Budd Campbell The phone # like my name is who I am. Unlike most people I choose not to hide behind a pseudonym. The number is there if you or anyone else want to have further discussions on topics I have posted . As far as extra attention goes, my wife and two beautiful daughters provide me with all I need. Bubb it seems you have had all the extra attention you can handle. All the shootings, bar brawls and mayhem on the streets of Vancouver. It seems with the late night openings The Vancouver police resources are stretched and with no increase of officers coming anytime soon, I see this problem only getting worse. Why Should Vancouver residents subsidize bar and night club owners for the wanton manner in which they make there big dollars, some of which ends up with Gordon cam bells Vancouver/Whistler liberal party? "or something"?
If you are to shy to express your feelings on the blog, you can always give me a call.
