Former provincial cabinet minister Joyce Murray seems to be getting quite serious about running for the federal Liberal nomination in Vancouver Quadra. According to an email sent out to friends and supporters, she and her husband Dirk Brinkman have already "decided to move back to my childhood neighbourhood of West Point Grey" - purchasing a house on West Broadway. The real estate listing for that house describes it as being "situated on one of Point Grey’s most sought after tree lined streets on a 6400 sq ft lot." The "spacious 3962 sq ft family home" reportedly "oozes with charm and awaits your decorating and development ideas. Spacious main floor with hardwood, generous natural light and classic features incl. paneled Den, Potential Sumptuous Master Suite on the upper level. High Lower Level with Ground level entry." The asking price: $1,495,000. The following is an edited copy of the aforementioned email.

Subject: Thank you...and please talk to your Quadra friends!
Dear friend,
Thank you for the privilege of serving with your support. Your confidence and commitment have made my public service in New Westminster, Coquitlam and Port Moody some of the most satisfying years of my life so far.
Dirk and I have decided to move back to my childhood neighbourhood of West Point Grey. Our new home is on West Broadway where you will always be most welcome.
Politics has been my second career, (or third, counting raising 3 children!), and builds on 25 years developing an international silviculture business, along with Dirk and the Brinkman team. After Chairing BC’s campaign to elect Stéphane Dion as Liberal Leader, I have again decided to seek public office with a place on his team.
It is my intention to become the next Member of Parliament serving Vancouver Quadra, building on the impressive legacy of Stephen Owen. To do that, I need your help.
To win the contest to become the Federal Liberal Candidate for the riding, I need your family and friends in Kerrisdale, Shaughnessy, Dunbar, Kitsilano, Arbutus Ridge, UBC or West Point Grey to vote for me at the party nomination.
To do that, you will need to help them sign a membership form (available at our house). If the person would like me to call and have a chat with them, please offer that and call the request into my office or send it to joyce@joycemurray.com. Ask them to check my new www.joycemurray.com web site or, if you think it will help, to call me directly on my mobile if they have questions, or to see how they can help.
A nomination race strengthens the Liberal Party through the participation of community members who share our passion for the environment, our compassion for the vulnerable, or our commitment to protect our multi-cultural society’s tolerance and freedom.
Please take a minute to contact your friends.
I look forward to once again to being able to serve you in government. Thanks to your continued support and your longstanding friendship, I am able to embark upon this new adventure with the great energy and optimism that we will need to make our country better.
Joyce Murray
Liberal Party of Canada candidate for nomination for Vancouver Quadra
I am reminded of the decision by Mark Marissen and Christy Clarke to purchase an expensive home in the City Hall area, though nothing in quite this price range. Clearly the reforestation business was good to the Brinkmans.
Joyce will be a great MP for Vancouver Quadra, she is by far the most qualified candidate I've heard mentioned so far. The "reforestation business was good to the Brinkmans" merely prooves the point, that Joyces achievements in business and her BC Lib gordo cabinet credentials will fit in perfectly with Quadra libs who for the most part are fiscaly prudent social progressives
It might be a wise suggestion to Joyce and her campaign that in email such as these that they also mention that people must not only sign a membership form, but also pay for that membership themselves.
Must have been an unintentional omission...
Quadra Skeptic - congratulations for the winning the "Reach of the Day" award. This is awarded to the person who puts in the greatest effort to generate controversy where there is none.
Congrats!
b-b-b-but what if Joyce doesn't win the Quadra nomination?
All three women running the nomination race in Quadra would make great candidates for the Liberal Party of Canada. It's also really great to see a nomination battle in the one of the highest-profile, winnable seats in the province an all women race. Methinks thats progress.
