This week, in an interview with The Province's Ian Bailey, former provincial cabinet minister Joyce Murray confirmed what we had already anticipated - that she's "considering a bid to become Vancouver Quadra's Liberal candidate in the next federal election." This, after parliamentarian Stephen Owen announced his retirement from politics. But, notwithstanding Ms. Murray's enthusiasm for that job, the party's local constituency association executive will be setting up a candidate search committee this coming Thursday to recruit a few more good women to run in the upcoming nomination race.
Thank you for the note, Sean.
We welcome Ms. Murray's consideration of seeking the Liberal candidacy in Vancouver Quadra and I know she agrees that a robust candidate search process is healthy for the riding and the party, (as well as being required by the Rules.) I expect a great field of candidates and clearly we're already off to a very good start.
Craig Munroe
President
Vancouver Quadra Liberal EDA
Good grief! Joyce Murray's potential candidacy is "welcome"?
At some point, Mr. Munroe, you will have to encourage candidates with credentials significantly better than being a failed provincial cabinet minister. With all the political savvy of a sock puppet, Joyce's choices have always been suspect - in my opinion.
Bonne chance.
Thanks for your passionate interest in our nomination race, Mr. Tsakumis. If you have some suggestions I would be happy to pass them on to our Candidate Search Committee.

Why not? The federal Liberals will take anyone.
Just ask Ujjal Dosanjh.

Even accepting a cabinet post from Gordon Campbell?
It will be interesting if there is a cat fight
in Quadra. Or to see what the 'creme de la creme'
does in an actual conflict.
But if the federal Liberals find the right female candidate, don't dismiss them going back to their old habits and having Dion directly appoint the favoured candidate without the benifit of a nomination meeting to actually choose between two or three good ones.
Old federal Liberal habits are hard to get rid of.
BTW: When is the federal Liberal Party going to pay back to the taxpayers, the money owing from the Party over Adscam??
The accrued interest on that (at 4% to 5% p.a.) should be showing significantly by now.
Passionate interest in your race?
Uh...okay.
I was simply pointing out what many other of your Liberal cohorts have pointed out to me the last several days.....Quadra is a Liberal gift horse (a statement which I agree with heartily), why put a has-been in the safest riding in the province?
Maybe because she's still sorting out her shoe-shine box from the leadership convention.
All she's got is green paste pal.
"Alex, if she gets it, the public will think she get's it because she's a Mark hoover...do we need that--not a chance". Let's play name that Grit hierarch.....
How many times, Mr. Munroe, do you think your Party needs to be reminded of the self-inflicted perils that landed you in Opposition?
Quadra should be a high profile candidate with cabinet material. So far, your party has produced only one name with those credentials, Christy.
But Joyce Murray?????
Think, for once.
Thanks Mr. Tsakumis. I take it you mean Christy Clark. You indeed make a good suggestion and I will pass it along to the search committee.
Craig
"Quadra should be a high profile candidate with cabinet material. So far, your party has produced only one name with those credentials, Christy."
Christy does not live in the riding, and she's not cabinet material. She was, but if somehow she is elevated to cabinet, it would be detected it was because of her better half, Mark Marissen did the inside track (and therefore the Clark-Marissen family is financially rewarded for his cmapaing work) rather than on the basis of her earning her way to The Big Desk at the expense of others who could easily earn it.
But one does wonder if the federal Liberals are going to keep to their bad habits and appoint candidates.
Quadra is certainly one riding where that can happen since it is prime Grit Territory.
The Quadra Liberals would do right to forgo Christy and Joyce and find some local contenders who will work for the constituents and not be one to be immeidately given the Big Desk the day after the election.
After all, many people in Quadra still share alot of the same things as those in other parts of B.C. and Canada.
Many Quadra people do wear Stanfield's and enjoy
hockey on Saturday nights.
David Dunbar,
Christy's credentials exceed the notion that her husband would be anoiting her. She would have to actively campaign. She would have to win the nomination. Two tasks which, although not particularly difficult for someone like her, would require more than just going through the motions. She would have to do more than show.
As for the notion that Mark would name the play...the NPA has been loaded with Liberals since time immemorial, and we all know how that worked out...
No, regardless of the fact they live in Centre, she's lived in Vancouver for a few years now and worked here for some more, the interloper or parachute moniker won't stick this time.
The Liberals could run a donkey in Quadra and win, but what message would they be sending to Vancouverites? We can't get a better quality candidate? We don't care? Quadra is the big prize, like Quilchena provincially.
Wait, wait, I know, I can see the headline now..."Liberal ass shows in race for the big one..."
It was easy to say on a Sunday afternoon not so long ago that the LPC had chosen the wrong guy to fight the next election. And I did. But he had a few days in the early going where I thought his quiet, assured almost-charm would grow on people.
But then I saw back to back stories on TV news the other night - the PM celebrating a year in office and laying out his next agenda and Dion in the press gallery theatre introducing his newest caucus member, Garth Turner. I guess Liberal principles mean if you used to be BC's top civil sevant or ran a large forest company, you have to go back to your constituents to get a mandate to switch parties, but you don't have to if you're ... Ontarian? Have facial hair?
Politics often happens in an instant and so does most of my forming of impressions -but here's three words for what I saw of Dion with Turner that day - deer in headlights - and one word for what I think he'll be half way through the next campaign - roadkill.
I think when it comes to the "stop the Harper majority" mantra about E-10, the NDP will be best positioned to take the strategic voters, hell we may even get Buzz Hargrove back ...
Actually, who gives a flying phoque what Buzz does ...?

Yah right Alex. As if she would campaign as if it was her first try at it with minimal resources.
She would be the receipient of alot of Liberal resources indirect and direct. You know the game and it's no different with the Liberals. She would get the best Liberal talent on her team, many of whom would be working for her so that they would get the coveted jobs after the Liberals win the election and it would get so unbalanced they might as well just appoint her as Candidate.
"As for the notion that Mark would name the play...the NPA has been loaded with Liberals since time immemorial, and we all know how that worked out..."
That's a bit odd. I've seen more Conservatives
than Liberals in the NPA. Metcalfe certainly isn't
Liberal and neither is Peter Ladner.
"No, regardless of the fact they live in Centre, she's lived in Vancouver for a few years now and worked here for some more, the interloper or parachute moniker won't stick this time."
Obviously. She should have stayed in Port Moody.
She only moved to Vancouver to move in on becoming the mayorality candidate for the NPA, despite the story she told about not being able to find soccer moms in her Heritage Mountain neighbourhood to have morning coffee with.

Add in the picture of Christy and you have your front story.
Good one Alex.
