He can't launch a thousand ships but...

Last night, on Public Eye Radio, Troy DeSouza announced he would once again be seeking the federal Conservative nomination in Esquimalt-Juan de Fuca. In a subsequent interview, Mr. DeSouza explained, "I'm the kind of guy that's pretty focused on what needs to get done. And when I see what needs to get done, I'll get it done" - referring specifically to infrastructure projects in the riding.

"I'm not hear to save the world," continued Mr. DeSouza. "And I'm not here to do a bunch of foreign policy gigs. And I don't just mean that as a slap to (incumbent Liberal candidate) Keith (Martin). I just mean that there's a lot of local priorities here. I've been living in this community longer than Keith has. And I'll continue to live in it well after I've finished becoming a member of parliament. So I personally have a vested interested in making sure the community grows. And I know the only way to trigger that is some federal help."

Does this mean the folks should support a conservative candidate , a party that will soon be out of office, just because he has lived in Esquimalt longer than the incumbent? One thinks he is out of touch with reality

Doesn't Troy realize that Canada's place in the world –diplomatic relations, or trade, or foreign investment– do in fact have an impact on our community? I doubt that Keith, or the Liberals, are trying to "save the world", but at least they recognize that we no longer live in the 17th century, and we can't get along just dandy on our own anymore. Wake up Troy, the world is becoming increasingly smaller, and Canada can't get left behind.

I guess this proves the saying "if at first you don't succeed...". The only problem here is Troy lacks the experience, dedication, insight, with the constituents that the incumbent Keith Martin has. Perhaps Troy could learn from Randall and jump ship altogeher...

Seems to be a bit too overly confident in defeating an incumbent.

Didn't he run before and got defeated?

If he does by some miracle, win would he get federal money to improve Highway 17 so that people don't have to go contend with all of those
traffic lights to and from the ferry in Saanich?

A nice four lane limited access highway from Elk Lake to Sidney would be very nice to have.

I applaud Troy DeSouza for his courage to stand up against the establishment. I am sure he knows that if he loses this time, there wont be a next time.

As for the tory wave that is coming this time, none of the current tory MP from the 93 class is in any danger. (none of Harris, Abbot, Hill, Strahl and Cummins is even going to be touched by his opponent.) Same cannot be said for the liberals, both Fry and Martin have are becoming detached from the constituents, especially Keith Martin, and tories should have an easier time diposing him vs they do with Fry.

The "Tory Tide" that FHK foresees is going to have to overcome a lot of obstacles, from a lousy softwood settlement to a Neanderthal approach to drug policy.

Count on Tory losses to the NDP among those who no longer think it urgent to vote out the Liberals. And count on Marissen to blow out his own party with his cocksure approach, 1970s methods, and badly tarnished crew. Imagine if he has to fight the election while the Basi Virk trial is being held! The beneficiary either way will be the NDP, and to a lesser extent, the Greens.

It's your turn Troy.Time to give Martin the "burial at sea he so richly deserves".You are a stand up guy and stand up for the community you will.As for the NDP,if they are anything like Randall, they have already DESERTED the riding in droves.I don't think the constituents at the base will take to kindly to that.
