Seriously? Lorne? If he runs against Hedy Fry, his political career will be over. He should stick to provincial politics and beating up street youth.

However, I think instead of running with conservatives, he should consider retiring Hedy Fry in the liberal nomination race to gain prominence (as it will probably gurnatee a win).

But that's probably not happening. Hedy Fry has been an established figure in the community and given her run for the leadership race, she probably "believes" she is safe. Tory strategy should be focused on how to drive the votes to the NDP as much as possible.

I think now that Hedy has a critic post she will be in for at least one more election. There are some blogging pundits (ie: Jonathan Ross, TDH) that seem to still think that Hedy may be replaced by Christy Clark. I agreed with him it was quite possible up until Hedy recieved her critic portfolio. He however has mentioned Christy even after the shadow cabinet was named. Maybe knows something we don't?

Someone mentioned Svend Robinson's bruising lost in the last election, but wrongly put it down as a loss to Hedy Fry. Fry, in fact, is purely incidental and of no consequence to the outcome.

The fact is that urban, non-union workers in the downtown area of Vancouver, as in Toronto, are so completely attached to the Liberal label that nothing else matters at all, not the Liberal candidate, not the Tory candidate, not the NDP candidate. These people just want their Liberals to win and that's that.

Forget about the urban suburban downtown nonsense. He stole a ring Bud, that didn't enhance his credibility.

Well Budd, that's not all completely true. Don't forget that Centre was a swing riding for most of the last century. It sat a Tory PM. I think that if it were not for Liberal fear-mongering in 2004 and Svend in 2005, that the NDP may have had a chance. I think if Kennedy was the candidate in 2005 he would have came closer than the the 4000ish votes Hedy had on him in the previous election. Not the other way aorund with Hedy gaining more of the popular vote.

Yes, Centre used to be a swing riding. But in recent years, with the importation into Canada by the Grit and Tory strategists of a good part of the sex and morals, guns and gays, Red State/Blue State BS that passes for political discourse in America, Vancouver Centre has basically been hammered solidly into the Liberal column.

Only a visible nationwide breakdown in the Liberal party would free up enough votes for the NDP to win there, no matter who the local candidates are. The big numbers of working class voters there are into the night club scene, not into social democracy. They are Liberals as it stands for the time being.

For the Conservatives, it's pretty much out of play until the party can find a Canadian Schwarzenneger as national leader, an unabashed economic conservative, but one who is more liberal on both social (read sexual) and environmental matters.
