Lilly jumps to a different pad

Mayor Sam Sullivan's community relations director has resigned "to take on a new opportunity in the private sector." In a message sent to friends and colleagues, Anna Lilly writes that opportunity "will enable me to have more balance in my life" - a laudable enterprise which continues to elude your humble organ. Ms. Lilly adds that, although her resignation may come as a surprise to some, "those who know me well will also understand how much I miss the work I previously did in the community as a volunteer, and my desire to continue my own personal development through continuing education and creative pursuits." The following is a complete copy of that message.

Dear friends and colleagues,

I am writing to let you know that I have resigned as Director of Community Relations to Mayor Sam Sullivan. While the past 13 months have been exciting, challenging and rewarding, I have decided to take on a new opportunity in the private sector that will enable me to have more balance in my life.

Working with Mayor Sullivan and the members of his caucus has been a wonderful experience and a privilege. I am very proud to have been part of the Mayor’s team over the past year, and I am grateful for his support and understanding about my decision.

No doubt many of you will be surprised to learn of my decision, as I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in the Mayor’s office. But, those who know me well will also understand how much I miss the work I previously did in the community as a volunteer, and my desire to continue my own personal development through continuing education and creative pursuits. As much as I will miss working with Mayor Sullivan, I feel that now is the right time for me to make this transition.

Due to my departure, the Mayor’s Chief of Staff will be seeking candidates for a new position in the Mayor’s Office - details will be posted in the coming days at www.mayorsamsullivan.ca.

You can continue to reach me in the Mayor’s Office until February 23rd, and I will be sure to forward my new contact details soon.

Thanks,
Anna

Congratulations to Anna Lilly. She handled herself well under pressure in that big piranna-filled media fishbowl known as city hall.

Anna did the NPA proud and hopefully she will stay involved with the NPA.

Has Sam got halitosis or something?

Oh well now Anna can work for Peter Ladner.

So Tsakumis finally got his way. Let's see if this jump starts Sam's career.

"So Tsakumis finally got his way. Let's see if this jump starts Sam's career."

Why would Sam take Tsakumi's advice? Alex isn't the only sharp pencil in the drawer.

I think if you go back and read the Vancouver Sun column that Alex wrote last fall you'll see that it was obvious where Sam Sullivan's staff problems were. Alex went public and maybe for some who were hoping that sullivan would fail that was not good but I think he was doing it all along as a ploy to get Sullivan to stop snoring his mayoralty away. But I agree with you Kerrys Dale, Alex was not the only sharp pencil to point out Sam's problems but was open about it. You have to give credit where it is due. Maybe Sam wants to turn things around after all. That's all I'm saying really.

I can only imagine how frustrating that job was. Good for her for making the move.

This stuff about Tsakumis is BS. He wishes people believed that Sam would ever take his advice. Dixon, you're just buying into Alex's obvious attempts at a smear job on Lilly.

Speaking of Alex Tsakumis, is he out of country or suffering from amnesia in a hospital bed somewhere?

I am stunned at his failure to comment on this interesting item!

Okay children (you included on this one Tieleman :-)), time for Uncle Alex to break up your party.

I never dispensed a word of advice to Sam on this issue--period. I have not had the need to speak to Sam for several months, thanks. Apparently Anna resigned, so I don't know what all the fuss is about.

Have never wanted to have anything to do with Anna on a "professional or personal basis". She and I were NPA boardmates, who, more often than not, worked well together. Her work during the campaign was exemplary. She is in PR, and I, am most certainly not. I think "In the Know" doesn't know very much. I think it's you that has a bit of penis envy. Sam has received lots of great advice from me (in the past) and about a half dozen others. Some he acted on, some he didn't, some he waited to act on.

Anyone who has ever read anything I have posted about staff issues in the Mayor's office or written about as opinion pieces in local papers, must have missed the same thing from journalists writing in the Globe and Mail, the Courier, the Sun and in other media like CBC Radio and CKNW.

So, while I'm flattered that you (mistakenly) credit me with trying to affect positive change in the Mayor's office, Anna Lily's decision to go was her own, we're told, so get over it. Good luck to her. I'm sure she did the best she could.

And yes, Tieleman, I am out of country today. I'm on Planet Advil.

Kudos to Tsakumis… he put a posting (this time under his own name) and he didn't use the word "apparatchiks." Yiipeee. Now to the substance.

"I never dispensed a word of advice to Sam on this issue--period."

No kidding…

You crap all over Sullivan and become a cheerleader for Vision-less Vancouver… therefore, I'm confident that Sullivan hasn't returned any of your calls, hence your lack of ability to give him your sage advice.

"I have not had the need to speak to Sam for several months, thanks."

See my last note… it's applicable to this bit of spin too.

Now that Anna's resigned… perhaps in the coming weeks she will be able to freely post her version of the story so we can all hear what really happened behind the scenes? Oooooooh… now that will make for interesting reading!! Watch out Tsakumis… you may have met your match.

"She and I were NPA boardmates, who, more often than not, worked well together."

Puulleasssse… nobody is buying that spin… just look at all your rants about her on this site over the last 12 months. Just ask any living breathing conservative in this city like myself and they will tell you the truth about how you feel about Lilly. You haven’t hidden your feelings from any of us.

"Anyone who has ever read anything I have posted about staff issues in the Mayor's office or written about as opinion pieces in local papers, must have missed the same thing from journalists writing in the Globe and Mail, the Courier, the Sun and in other media like CBC Radio and CKNW."

The difference is that those other media outlets have professional journalists, not half-baked self-proclaimed political commentators giving their analysis.

By the way, I'm sure your comments were referring to the Vancouver Sun’s recent endorsement of Sullivan's drug plan? Or the Province's endorsement of his Eco density initiative? Or the business community's support of his backing of BC Place Stadium? Or the Sun's endorsement of Sullivan's position on Walmart… or the recent New York Times article praising Sullivan's handling of the Stanley Park disaster… and on… and on… and on… Alex just admit it. Sullivan is doing well without you… perhaps you should move on and begin advising Raymond Louie… he's the one that really needs your sage advice.

"I'm sure she did the best she could."

What a ringing endorsement from someone who claims to be her friend. Lilly did the NPA proud. I hope she sticks with the NPA… regardless if you stay involved with it.

"And yes, Tieleman, I am out of country today. I'm on Planet Advil."

Might I humbly suggest… given how often you post on this site… you're actually on the "Lonely Planet."

Nice to see you again coward splicer!

Talk about spin. I welcome your feeble attempts to deflect the truth. The endorsements you claim were lukewarm at best. But as I have said in the past, lying is trying--and you're the champ there. Yup, Sam's doing great @ 38% in the polls against a raving maniac like Tim Louis and used goods like Jim Green. I guess your pals in the Mayor's office didn't want that out there but there it is carrot top. Great approval rating. How much are you getting paid to track the truth and try to turn it on it's head?

Your comments about me are simply put, idle ramblings. You wait until a thread is done and then sit like the yellowback you've proved you are to post so that for future reference you get the last word. Very mature. Nice work if you can get it. Your opinions just don't jive with reality.

You are a little demented when you claim that I "claim to be her friend" We were never friends, just acquaintances, and worked very well together on the Board, for the most part, and throughout the campaign, when her work was exemplary.

And for your information I post as me. I know you can't stand the fact that there are people who value my thoughts, but that's tough.

Pretty rich coming from a brainfarter who doesn't have the fucking balls to come out as himself and say what he wants to say.

Even though, I've know who you are from almost the start.

Keep it up and I'll out you--personally.
