What's this we hear about Gordon Ashworth being named the federal Liberal's national campaign director? Well, that's certainly the rumour circulating among party hacks west of the Rocky Mountains. And it would make a certain amount of sense. After all, Mr. Ashworth did that same job in 1980, 1993 and 1997. And he's known to be one of national campaign co-chair Mark Marissen's confidantes. But, then again, two plus two doesn't always equal four in politics.
Gordon Ashworth would be an excellent campaign director. He was instrumental in getting Chretien elected with majority governments, something the Conservatives can only dream of.
No matter how great Gordie's record is, having to work with Senator Marissen and his Keystone Cops is a Mother-Of-All-Failures waiting to happen.
I love hearing from all these folks who run down Marissen. Do it at your peril, friends.
Love him or not, he is a very good political mind and has what it takes to win.
"Love him or not, he is a very good political mind and has what it takes to win."
If that's true, why would we need Marissen?
Tek Manhas makes a great point. Ashworth would be top of the heap.
Sounds like all sides of the party are coming together to fight the good fight. A united Liberal Party will be much stronger going after Harper.
BTW, Ashworth did it in 2000 as well. Also in 1985 and 1987 for Peterson in Ontario. Sounds like a pretty strong record to me.
The secret to the Senator's success is that he tells people especially patronage hungry Grits . . . what they want to hear.
But clearly to know either or both of the BC Power Couple is to know the Barnum & Bailey Circus.
Good, best of luck to him. Every party has got its Karl Rove I suppose.
Nice exclusive shawn.
