An apple for the teacher?

Here's a bout of wishful thinking courtesy of the federal Liberals: it seems some party members are hearing rumours British Columbia Teachers' Federation president Jinny Sims is being wooed to run for the Grits against Fleetwood-Port Kells incumbent Conservative Nina Grewal. But, in an interview with Public Eye, Ms. Sims said "I think it's just a rumour. Well, I know it's just a rumour. Because I'm not talking to anybody about running in Fleetwood." So does that mean she's ruling out a run for the Liberals? "Well, right now I'm the president of the BCTF. And I'm really enjoying my job," Ms. Sims responded. Earlier, The Province's Ian Bailey speculated that, if Ms. Sims stepped down as president, it would "clear her to run for the NDP nomination in Newton-North Delta."

Jinny Sims running for the Federal Liberals?!

Hey Steve, I advise you look into the BC Liberals' "ReadNow BC" adult literacy program.

Forget being disgusted at Sims. It's the idea that she could run as a Liberal.

As a party member, it makes me want to hurl.

I certainly hope there's nothing to this. I would like to see Sims representing the NDP in North Delta.

"I certainly hope there's nothing to this. I would like to see Sims representing the NDP in North Delta."

The NDP is fine the way it is.

The NDP doesn't need any more representation, or MP's thank you.

I think the story goes like this.

Liberals used to be able to buy NDP into changing colors when Paul Martin had the money, but Canadians finally woke up from coma and kicked liberals out of Ottawa. So today, no more NDP will become liberals anymore, and Canadians lived happily ever after.

From the NDP perspective, I would disagree with you, I believe Jenny Sims is too polarizing and will drive provincial BC liberal supporters to come out and vote against her by going to the local vote-getting machine Sukh Dhaliwal. Nancy Clegg would be a much better candidate.

I would suggest that she should be running in Vancouver South where there is a stronger pro-education Sikh community.

"I would suggest that she should be running in Vancouver South where there is a stronger pro-education Sikh community. "

Kind of racist there. Send an Indo-Cdn. lady to
an area that is labelled by a Chinese Cdn. as having an "pro-education Sikh community?"

If she or anyone runs, why not do something novel.

Why would provincial BC Liberal supporters in Newton North Delta authomatically support Sukh Dhaliwal?

This is a guy that thought it was okay to have one of the federal Liberal leadership candidates conveniently stop by his MP's office for a conveniently set up political event in an office that should not have political events in the first place.

Support the candidate on the basis of what he or she will be able to accomplish for the voters rather than what ethniticity they are?

How exactly is calling the Vancouver South a pro-education Sikh community racist? The area does have larger high school pupil population with also a large number of Sikh immigrants. Running Sims to defeat Dosanjh will be dramatic of course as the president of BCTF tries to bring down the premier it backed in 2001. If Jenny Sims is looking for prominence as I am suspecting, it will be best for her to run in Vancouver South to bring down the establishment. She lacks the traction in Surrey against either Grewal or Dhaliwal.

I can see where Budd is coming from, but Nancy Clegg, while she already ran twice against Dhaliwal, didnt lose by much and she has a much stronger root in the community which is almost a must to win elections in Surrey. Jenny will have a better chance winning if she moves to the riding next to Libby Davies.

Jinny Sims will definately NOT be running for the NDP candidacy nomination in Newton-North Delta. The "nomination meeting" is set for Feb 11th. and only one person, filing their papers before the deadline, was acceptable to Jeff Fox. Here we go again?

Seriously though, NDP candidate selection in Vancouver South has been a disaster, and I would think anyone is better than the angry grandma Bev Melso.
