It's not quite spring but...

Former provincial Liberal backbencher Sheila Orr present political activities have, for the most part, have been limited to patronage jobs. But the perennial rumour that Ms. Orr may be considering a run to be mayor of Victoria has bloomed. And what does she have to say about such talk? "It's not outside the realm of possibility," Ms. Orr replied in an interview with Public Eye, declining to provide further comment.

Yup, it's about time. Didnt Hillary Clinton just announce her candidacy for next year's election?

So Alan Lowe after 9 year of tenure is not running to be a mayor again? How sad. Maybe he should run for Victora MP seat against Denise Savoie, who served under him on city council. Since the municipal NDP party has opposed Alan Lowe in all three election he has run in, I think it will be nice that this race does happen, even if it may get a little personal.

At bit early, since the civic elections don't happen until November 2008.

Only an idiot would start this early. There's no guarantee that Orr would win, since Victoria is traditionally NDP. (lots of BCGEU people there)

Of course, Dallas, Victoria has had a Federal Liberal Mayor for three terms.

when did the present mayor say he wsn't running? If Orr tried to runn for any party the rally call would be" anyone but Orr.

Unless Alan Lowe really is a lifelong Liberal I would be surprised if he would jump aboard the Liberal ship now.

It's one thing for Paul Martin to reach out and recruit "star" candidates. (Were Ujjal Dosanjh and Shirley Chan and Dave Haggard really stars, outside their recesses of their own imaginations, that is???). That was when the Liberals were in government, in power. Now they are in Opposition, out of power, and no longer equipped with the advantages of incumbency that Dosanjh and Murphy compared to a "warm, furry blanket" during their "Cabinet is quick" recruitment interviews with Gurmant Grewal.

Speaking of Grewal, is it possible that the Liberals are still attempting to recruit him as we speak? Just a thought.

Recruit Gurmant to run in which riding? Port Kells-Fleetwood? Liberals had their chance and they blew it. It is now the tory's term to recruit former liberals. If Sukh Dhaliwal is as smart as I think he is, he should secure the tory nomination when there is still time.

Hmmm. A truly classic manouevre FHK. Sort of like Wajid Kahn with a turbo charger. BTW, I don't have my list, but I think Dhaliwal was given Western Diversification as his critic post by Dion, wasn't he? Surely that's enough of a reward to keep his loyalty, isn't it? Or do you have more insider information?

Well, he is after all from the pro-Iggy gang. We all know why Dion appoitned these people to his shadow cabinet. How much time do you believe that these appointments will actually last? Dhaliwal is no three year old kid and he probably already has an idea as to where his political future lies.
