Patrick's day?

Over the summer, we reported former provincial minister of state for immigration and multicultural services Patrick Wong was considering running for the federal Liberal nomination in Vancouver-Kingsway. That didn't happen. But now we hear some Tories want him to run for their party in Richmond. Mr. Wong, a managing partner at accounting firm Wong, Robinson & Co., hasn't yet returned a call placed last week asking for comment on those discussions. Howard Jampolsky and Alice Wong are presently seeking the Conservative nomination in that riding.

Wow...This John Reynolds is truly a piece of work isnt he?

Pitting the establishment Chinese candidate against the grassroot Chinese candidate. This is likely going to be another "appointtment" from tory super-power following George Chow, John Weston and Lorne Mayencourt. George Chow is already the favourite in Vancouver-Kingsway nomination even before he runs. But exactly how many exemptions will be given by Master Reynolds? I am sure I am not the only one getting disgusted with red tories joining the nomination process.

This is never going to happen in spite of Conservative pipe dreams. Wong is a life long federal Liberal from the North shore and has logged thousands of hours voluneering for the party. Besides, he has already killed the notion of this idea in the Chinese papers during interviews last week. Watch for Wong to run in the next BC election in 2009 and soon there after, return to the Campbell cabinet table.

George Chow a conservative? What you been smoking?

I am sure I have been smoking the same thing since Larry Campbell went liberal. But I am seeing Reynolds people not having much success in convincing people to run.

John Weston is the only establishment candidate that already has a strong rooting inside the riding association, but the same cannot be said with North Vancouver. I predict a closer contest in North Vancouver, and I also expect Alice Wong to walk over everyone for the nomination since it is becoming more apparent that the party establishment simply lacks traction in BC.

Hey there... nothing can be impossible of a possible Liberal defection. I guess that there may be a reason since the Chinese Head Tax issue is like a big fire in the feds' bottoms that needed to be extinguished. And the Tories did make an formal apology and compensation but a promised one from the Liberals during the election campaign was just a lame joke. Perhaps Mr. Wong was fed up with the Liberals' lag in their process to do this kind of thing? Recall how Wadjid Khan was in the fire for agreeing to work with the PM. I guess he probably wanted more action than empty words of lip-service.
