Frankly speaking

The federal Conservatives ride a high horse when they talk about morals and ethics. But this story may knock them off their saddle a bit. Tomorrow, the party’s Saanich-Gulf Islands constituency association was scheduled to hold a high-priced fundraiser featuring Indian Affairs and Northern Development Minister Jim Prentice and Natural Resources Minister Gary Lunn. There’s nothing extraordinary about that. But an email promoting the luncheon - which was limited to 15 people at a cost of $500 per plate - raised some eyebrows. According to those who have seen the email, Tories were told they would have an opportunity at the fundraiser to “put detailed questions” to the ministers and receive “frank, off the record answers” - as well as an “excellent first class” lunch at the Union Club of British Columbia. But it seems some senior party members didn’t think the wording of that email was appropriate. So the luncheon was cancelled.

Sean, tomorrow the Saanich-Gulf Islands constituency association of the federal Liberal party will be cosponsoring a FREE, OPEN public consultation with recent leadership candidate Martha Hall Findlay at UVic (A240, HSD building, 7 pm). She is looking for public input to help develop the Liberal policy platform for the next federal election. Participants will be able to "put detailed questions" to Martha and receive "frank, ON THE RECORD" answers. Sorry, no first class lunch. Let's think about contrasting values: Conservative - exclusive, small, expensive, closed. Liberal - inclusive, large, free, open.

What a load of crap from David. The Liberals have long been the party of $5000 access receptions and under the table fundraising. The difference in culture is that when something doesn't sound quite right to the conservatives they cancel it. When something doesn't sound quite right to the Liberals, they cover it up. Adscam anyone?

I can't believe anyone is dumb enough to pay money to listen to Lund. The guy actually had to grovel to get back in the party after deciding to go along with a few others when the Conservatives and the Reform wer setting up shop. He is a cabinet person simply because there is very few cons in this part of the world.

It almost stops the bleeding to read here of Grits and Tories slagging each other over who is worse than the other.

Once again the reader is left to ponder just what the difference is in these two old dino piles.

Who wouldn't want to talk to pipsqueek Lunn!? After all, he got a bunch of his constituents who worked for JDS Uniphase exempted from the Income Tax Act. I bet there are a few members of the Union Club who think their tax bills are unfair, too.

Lund has been on TV and radio, more in the last four or five days than since first elected, which gives me the feeling that the cons are a bit worried about the seat. why anyone votes for the opportunist is beyond me.
