Operatives are standing by?

Mayor Sam Sullivan's administration hasn't been without its critics, as evidenced in recent columns by the Vancouver Courier's Allen Garr and former Non-Partisan Association board member Alex Tsakumis. And, in less public quarters, some members of the mayor's civic party have been expressing similar concerns. But, according to the rumour mill, he could soon be addressing some of that criticism head-on in a state of the city address - possibly as early as this coming Tuesday. And, if those rumours are true, that means you now have less than 48 hours to make a suggestion on what should be in that speech. Phone lines are open.

There are at most only two options left open to Sullivan if he wishes to avoid utter disgrace.

I believe that to continue in power, he must establish the Imperial Mayoralty that Larry Campbell was trying to establish when the COPE Classics treacherously stabbed him into the Senate.

But Sullivan can't do it alone. He will have to set up a triumvirate, and rule jointly with Jim Green and Tim Louis.

The only other alternative is to privatize the city government, and appoint himself as CEO. He's already partway there....

Even if the provincial Liberals drop the rumoured 1 billion dollars into mental health issues and that sweeps the DTES of a good protion of it's issues, think they are going to let Sam take the credit? Would you?

A State-of-the-Union speech from the floor of council chambers is appropriate considering that the current Mayor's Office very closely resembles the Bush White House, in oh so many ways.....

No one, including political polar opposites, should want anything but the Mayor to be headng in the right direction, after all, that's all anyone has wanted since December of 2005.

One things for sure; this recent flurry and resulting slush from Sam's lickspittles has energized his media relations people.....they're now making unsolicited calls to members of the press and whining about people quoted in columns that are unfavourable of the Mayor. Very professional.

At the end of the proverbial day, what happened between Jennifer and Philip does not apply here...Philip was a popular Mayor who was a relative star in some fairly breezy quarters, although there was little to no opposition to speak of, he soldiered through whatever came. Sam (and his apparatchiks) creates his own problems. All the contenders inside and outside the NPA, looking at running for Mayor, would be running against a Mayor with a spotty record, at best. Plus, all of them are popular in their own right and have earned their gold stripes in their respective politcal lives: Clark, Ladner, Anton.

Tomorrow will be nothing more than a veiled attack against the world outside Sam's bubble.

Yawn.

there is lots of evidence that allen garr and alex tsakumis are totally right. the people who don't see it are only those that needed a job or used sam for their own benefit. the whole mess is sam's fault anyway. i'm a long time npa member and i will be supporting someone else at the nomination even though i supported sam last time because christy was not a vancouverite. sam isn't worth another term. no way. if alex's right and i think he is, sam's biggest problem on the east side will get corrected by gordon campbell and the province.

Sam Sullivan looks like he has used many people to get to where he is today. He has also pretended to be gentle. The quote from his movie about stepping on people says something different. Sullivan acts like he is a good man but where is his goodness?

He does not say where he gets his money and no one knows about what he does with it unless we read the papers. It's time for a new mayor.

There goes A.G. (the sky is falling) Tsakumis predicting doom and gloom again. Just because you wish for something to happen in politics… it doesn’t always happen that way. Or didn’t they teach you that in the political commentator courses you took by correspondence.

If I did have my wish... I would wind back the clock to 2002, appoint Cadman (Bass is my second choice) as our leader and COPE would still be in charge at City Hall and Vision-less Vancouver would be but a twinkle in Bob Rennie’s eye. But if life were like that, you wouldn’t need visa!

Re: Bush comment

Isn’t Tsakumis a self-proclaimed corporate loving neo-conservative? There he goes bashing his buddies again. Even the President isn’t outside his political grasp. Let me guess, Tsakumis was a former advisor to Bush as well?

Re: apparatchiks

Let’s see how many postings A.G. Tsakumis can post without using the word apparatchiks. Get out your dictionary everyone.

Clark, Ladner, Councillor Suzanne Anton

Go girls! If we ever want to see COPE back at City Hall next year, let the in-fighting begin with Tsakumis on the sidelines cheering his NPA buddies on. Can NPA classic and NPA lite be too far behind? One can only COPE.

Having watched this story from within COPE, I think I know where this sorry story (and Sullivan’s sorry administration) will end once Clark and Ladner ramp things up.
